India based vendors are on an aggressive rage on launching Android KitKat based budget smartphones and the latest one to enter this particular market segment is Spice Mobiles. The firm has announced its first ever KitKat based handset – Spice Stellar Mi-600 via online retailer HomeShop18 carrying price label of 9,999. While there are many such handsets in the sub Rs 10,000 price range, the Spice offering appears to be better with aspiring specifications. Here is a quick review on the handset to discuss where it stands.
Camera and Internal Storage
The rear camera is an 8 MP sensor combined with LED flash and this is similar to many other Android smartphones in this price range. It is companied by a 3 MP front-facer that makes the handset pretty impressive as it can assist in quality video chatting sessions and clicking gorgeous selfies. On the camera segment, the Spice offering appears to be an above average performer with its camera set.
The internal storage capacity is 4 GB which can be extended up to 32 GB with the help of an external memory card. The handset lags behind its competitors that arrive with 8 GB of native storage capacity making this a major downside.
Processor and Battery
The Spice Stellar Mi-600 has a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor that is supported by 1 GB of RAM. With this power fueling the handset, we can say that it can handle decent levels of multi-tasking and traits for a satisfactory Android KitKat operating system user experience.
Battery capacity in the handset is 2,500 mAh that is pretty good to handle the quad-core processor and qHD display. It is claimed by Spice that this battery can deliver up to 9.5 hours of talk time that is average.
Display and Features
The size of the display is enormous at 6 inches that is pretty attractive to perform the basic tasks. However, the screen has a mediocre resolution of 960×540 pixels that translates to a very low pixel density of 183 pixels per inch. The other handsets that are available in this price bracket pack decent pixel density of at least 230 pixels per inch and hence, this display lags behind a little in color reproduction and other aspects.
Fueled by Android 4.4 KitKat, the handset arrives with dual SIM card functionality and other standard connectivity features such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with aGPS.
Comparison
The stiff competitors of the Spice Stellar Mi-600 include Intex Aqua i15, iBall Andi 5.5N2 Quadro, Lenovo A850 and Micromax Canvas Beat A114R.

Price and Conclusion
The handset carries a reasonable pricing of Rs 9,999 and offers a good set of specifications, but it does misses out on certain segments. If Spice had incorporated a better display with increased resolution and at least 8 GB of default storage space, the handset would have definitely become one of the best smartphones in the sub Rs 10,000 price bracket. If you are strictly looking for a 6 Inch phablet under 10,000 INR, the specifications on paper are among the best you could hope for.
