Earlier this month, there were rumors that e-commence giant Flipkart will be launching its own tablets under the Digiflip brand. Following the same, we received an invite for a launch event on June 26 and as speculated the retailer has unleashed its first ever tablet dubbed Digiflip Pro XT 712 (Hands on Review). Along with the launch of this tablet, Flipkart has announced a slew of introductory offers and the interesting try and buy program. If you are looking forward to buy the tablet, here is a quick review before you head on for the purchase.

Camera and Internal Storage

The primary camera flaunts a 5 MP sensor at the back that is common with most of the tablets in the sub Rs 10,000 price bracket. Though we cannot analyze the performance of this camera just with its resolution, the addition of auto focus and LED flash makes it an impressive one. In our brief time with the device the camera performance was pretty good. There is a 2 MP front-facer onboard to help in the video chatting sessions.

Internal storage is one of the departments in which Flipkart excels its rivals with 16 GB of native storage capacity. While this memory capacity should be sufficient for most users to store the necessary content, the Digiflip Pro XT 712 tablet also features a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32 GB of additional storage space. It has to be noted that none of the tablets in the entry-level market segment arrive with such huge internal storage.

Processor and Battery

Processor employed in the Digiflip Pro XT 712 is a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8382 processor that should be capable of delivering an above average performance and user experience. To enhance this further, the tablet incorporates 500 MHz Mali 400-MP2 GPU and 1 GB of RAM.

The battery capacity is 3,000 mAh and Flipkart has not revealed anything regarding the specific backup. However, the retailer claims that this battery should be capable of delivering adequate power for the tablet to last for a day under moderate usage.

Display and Features

The display is the standard 7 inch panel that has a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. It is an IPS panel and hence it will provide acceptable viewing angles and color contrast. However, we doubt the sharpness and outdoor visibility of this display. In our hands on with the device, the display was reflective due to large gap between digitizer and display panel.

Digiflip Pro XT 712 is fueled by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with no word regarding an upgrade. Further, it arrives with connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, USB OTG and 3G via the dual SIM card slots.

As mentioned above, Flipkart provides launch offers worth over Rs 9,000 along with this tablet with the Shopping Machine that provides free shopping for Rs 5,300 on Flipkart using its mobile app from the device, free 1 month subscription of Flipkart First, flat 50% off on Book Case costing Rs 799 for the tablet, free Plantronics ML2 Bluetooth Headset worth Rs 1,199 and free Flipkart eBooks for Rs 2,300. Also, interested consumers can try the tablet for a period of 30 days and return it to Flipkart under the new Try & Buy scheme, which is a limited period offer.

Comparison

The Digiflip Pro XT 712 will be a stiff competitor to the other tablets such as Lenovo A7-50, HP Slate 7 Voice Tab and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Neo.

Price and Conclusion

The Flipkart Digiflip XT 712 tablet is a good offering in the sub Rs 10,000 price range and it is definitely a direct rival to the other similar tablet offerings in the market. However, the tablet is available exclusively from the online retailer along with a plethora of freebies and offers making it an impressive one to purchase. Though the tablet does not pack any extraordinary specifications that can deliver an exceptional user experience, it is decent enough for its pricing.

  1. While Flipkart has launched a cheap Android tablet, which is nothing but branding of some Chinese tab. Similar to what Micromax is doing. They have not put any engineering in it. In general I would be wary of cheap android tablets as the specs might look the same on paper but the components will not be up to the mark. So I suggest — Read the reviews. Do a hands on and then check on it after 6 months again to see how the battery has been performing. If someone is looking for a great budget tab then I would stick my neck out and suggest the Nexus 7 from Google.
