Several manufacturers will soon introduce Firefox OS based Ultra cheap smartphones in India with price starting from $25, and meanwhile ZTE Firefox Open C is listed on ebay if you are an early adopter and don’t mind paying hefty 9,999 INR price. The ZTE Open retailing is an unlocked AT&T US model and is not being sold by ZTE Officially.
Hardware includes 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 MSM8210 dual core chipset aided by 512 MB RAM and 4 GB ROM. ZTE Open C also features a not-so-impressive TFT LCD display which is 4 inches in size with WVGA 800 x 480 resolution.
For photography, we have a 2 MP basic rear shooter and it won’t be wise to expect much from it. Other features include 1400 mAh battery, Bluetooth, GPS with AGPS support, WiFi and 3G.
In case you are not satisfied with FireFox OS, the retailer has also provided with Android 4.4 KitKat firmware for the device which you can load in MicroSD card and install in recovery mode by following these simple steps. Firmware for FireFox OS is also present, should you desire to switch back.
Spice and Intex will soon launch their Firefox OS devices in India so it doesn’t make much sense to buy this. Firefox OS aims at bringing a decent Smartphone experience with HTML5 based universal apps for dirt cheap prices.
In Indian market several Android based phones have attempted to do the same but we have to admit, Android experience doesn’t fit well with 256 MB RAM/ 512 MB ROM devices. Let’s see how Firefox devices perform with entry level hardware.
