These days, Sony is trying to establish the water-resistance as a trademark for its Xperia lineup of devices. So long, the firm was incorporating this feature only in its top notch offerings, but now it appears to have extended it to mid-rangers as well. We say this as the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua smartphone has been launched officially carrying the credits of being the first ever mid-ranger with water resistant build from a tier one brand.
The Xperia M2 Aqua is none other than a water resistant variant of the Xperia M2 smartphone and it is expected to be launched in select markets such as Asia Pacific, Latin America and Europe.
Elaborating on the technical specifications front, the Xperia M2 Aqua arrives with a 4.8 inch IPS LCD display that features a qHD screen resolution of 960×540 pixels resulting in a pixel density of 229 pixels per inch. This display is layered with a scratch resistant glass to resist damage to some extent.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset housing a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A7 processor and Adreno 305 graphic engine powers the smartphone. This is aided by means of a 1 GB of RAM that should suffice in handling the multi-tasking capabilities. Furthermore, there is an 8 MP primary snapper onboard the handset paired with LED flash, auto focus, HDR, panorama and FHD 1080p video recording. Also, there is a front-facing VGA camera for basic video conferencing.
Storage wise, the Xperia M2 Aqua packs in 8 GB of internal storage space that can be expanded externally by another 32 GB using a micro SD card. Connectivity aspects onboard are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, 3G, GPS and USB OTG and there is a 2,330 mAh battery for a decent backup.
Apart from the specifications, for the water resistant nature the handset comes with the IP65/68 certification and for dust resistant it has IP65 certification.
