Oppo Neo 3 R831K Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Lately, China based vendor Oppo announced its partnership with e-commerce giant Flipkart to sell the Oppo Find 7 in India. Soon after inking the deal, the vendor has launched the Oppo Neo 3 R831K smartphone that seems to be an upgraded variant of the Neo 3 R831 launched earlier this year. The handset is priced at Rs 10,990, but it appears to arrive with slightly downgraded specifications as compared to the other handsets in the segment. Now, let us take a look at the quick review of the handset to know its capabilities.

Camera and Internal Storage

The Oppo Neo 3 R831K comes with an average imaging unit for its pricing. At the back of the device is a 5 MP camera coupled with auto focus and LED flash. There is a front facing 2 MP selfie camera unit that will take charge of video conferencing and self portrait shots. While there are many smartphones in the segment with 8 MP primary snapper onboard, the incorporation of a 5 MP camera is a downside, but it appears to be average.

The internal storage capacity of the handset is 4 GB that is annoying as most manufacturers are coming up with offerings packing 8 GB capacity. This makes the Oppo handset lag behind in terms of competition as the 4 GB storage capacity is gradually fading away these days. However, there is expandable storage support up to 32 GB using a micro SD card.

Processor and Battery

A dual-core processor (unspecified chipset) ticking at 1.3 GHz clock speed powers the smartphone delivering it a moderate performance. Also, this is paired with 1 GB of RAM that can take charge of the multi-tasking department. While the entry-level smartphones are coming up with highly capable processors, the incorporation of a dual-core processor makes the Oppo Neo 3 R831K a weak contender.

The handset incorporates a 1,900 mAh battery that should make the handset a decent performer considering its basic specifications. We can expect this battery to deliver a moderate backup under mixed usage.

Display and Features

The display unit of the Oppo smartphone is a 4.5 inch one that boasts of a FWVGA screen resolution of 854×480 pixels. This screen is an average one with nothing pretty exceptional about it. There are notable offerings in the market in the sub Rs 10,000 price bracket that arrive with better displays making this one lag behind in terms of competition.

Another downside of the device is that is runs on the dated Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform based on Color OS, while most of the entry-level smartphones are fueled by the latest iteration of the platform – v4.4 KitKat. The other features onboard the device include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS along with dual SIM functionality.

Comparison

With the aforementioned specifications and pricing, the Oppo Neo 3 R831K could find a tough challenge with the devices such as Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Asus Zenfone 4 A450CG, iBall Andi 4.5 K6, Lava Iris 455 and others.

Price and Comparison

The Oppo Neo 3 R831K is priced at Rs 10,990 that appears to be slightly on the higher side considering its specifications. The handset misses out on many aspects such as display, storage and raw hardware. While the entry-level smartphone segment is flooded with several capable offerings, this one lags behind in the competition. We hope Oppo slashes the price of the handset in order to make it an enticing offering in the smartphone race.
