BlackBerry has launched its much awaited smartphone, the BlackBerry Passport. The business orientated phone combines the best of BlackBerry’s expertise and the cool ‘Passport’ Moniker isn’t its only fascinating feature by far.
The BlackBerry Passport has a 4.5 Inch IPS LCD Square Display with 1440 x 1440 pixels amounting to 453 pixels per inches. The 10 finger multi touch display is also protected by Gorilla Glass 3. BlackBerry demonstrated the display by opening same document on all iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Passport. The Passport’s wide screen managed to house much more info. BlackBerry also demoed wide square display advantages while viewing images, especially medical images.
The chipset employed is 2.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of Internal storage. You can further augment storage by another 64 GB using MicroSD card slot
The first of its kind capacitive keyboard is another highlight of the device. You can swipe up to choose words from suggestions or swipe left to delete. BlackBerry has also improved on cursor management.
The new Phone runs on BlackBerry OS 10.3 which comes with BlackBerry Assistant, analogous to Google Now and Siri. You can also type commands to the BB Assistant, similar to Google Now and Cortana. The Phone will come preloaded with Amazon App store and BlackBerry World App store for productivity apps.
BlackBerry also introduced BlackBerry Blend, which allows you to work across platform in real time. You can securely access your BB10 device from any platform. you can simply drag and drop files from your laptop, tablets, iPad, etc with ease.
BlackBerry also claims that the speaker on BlackBerry Passport is 18 percent louder than HTC One M8 and that is saying something. Compared to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S5, BB Passport will be 350 percent louder.
The rear 13 MP camera sports Optical Image Stabilization and is expected to be at par with popular Android flagships. You can record full HD videos from the rear shooter and HD videos from the 2 MP front snapper.
Powering all hardware is massive 3450 mAh battery which can last 30 hours of use time. BlackBerry has already scheduled an event in India on 29th September and we can safely assume that BlackBerry will present BlackBerry Passport at the event. The BlackBerry Passport will start retailing Globally by the end of October for $599 on Amazon. We can expect the India price and availability to be unveiled on September 29.
