Asus has rolled out Android 4.4.2 Kitkat for its hot selling Zenfone series smartphones Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6, as promised at the launch nearly 3 months back. The Zenfone 4.5 (Zenfone 4 A450CG) which was released at a later date already runs Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box.
This isn’t the first OTA update that Asus is rolling out for its Zenfone portfolio (earlier Zenfone 5 got USB OTG support via firmware update) in India, and this one too will roll out in batches. If you haven’t received the notification yet, you can go to Settings>> About Phone>> Software to check for updates manually.
Commenting on the update, Peter Chang, Regional Head – South Asia & Country Manager – System Business Group – Asus India, said, "Our users have been eagerly awaiting the android update and we are extremely elated to announce its upgradation at this time of the year. The KitKat update and other additional interesting features will further redefine their experience with their ZenFones."
Apart from the OS upgrade, several other features have been added to the Zen UI as well. New features include 3 more video effects you can add to videos, call block feature, better camera stability, automatic search for local FM radio station, background transparency level adjustment, and many more.
The update will not remove your personal data or restore your settings, but it is recommended that you backup important files before you proceed. Ensure that your phone is fully charged and you initiate the process on a WiFi network because of the large size of the update file. If you have successfully installed the new update, share your experience in the comment section below.
