Motorola has been circulating in the tech headlines for a while regarding Droid Turbo. Now, the latest flagship smartphone in the Droid lineup for Verizon Wireless is official and it would be made available starting from October 30. The device comes in two variants, 32 GB and 64 GB priced at $199 and $249 respectively for contract.
When it comes to specifications, the Droid Turbo arrives with a 5.2 inch AMOLED display that boasts of a Quad HD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels translating to a pixel density of 565 pixels per inch. The screen is layered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to make it scratch resistant.
Under its hood, the Droid Turbo houses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC clocked at 2.7 GHz and this is aided by 600 MHz Adreno 420 graphics engine and 3 GB of RAM. The handset arrives in two configurations, 32 GB and 64 GB of native storage support that cannot be expanded further and runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system.
Imaging hardware of the Motorola offering comprises of a 21 MP primary snapper with dual LED flash and support for 4K video recording and a 2 MP front facing selfie camera. The other aspects of the Droid Turbo include 4G/LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS with GLONASS and NFC for connectivity. The juicy 3,900 mAh battery in the device is claimed to provide up to 48 hours of backup to the smartphone under mixed usage.
The Droid Turbo features a water resistant build and has features such as MinuteCast that predicts the minute (for two hours) when it will rain, snow or hail based on the user’s location. The handset comes in a Special Black Ballistic Nylon edition with a lightweight and high strength aluminum design. Also, there are Metallic Red and Metallic Black variants with high strength aluminum and metalized glass fiber design with Dupont Kevlar back cover.
