Google seems to be working on a new feature called Copresence that will let the Android and iOS devices to share content and interact with those devices that are nearby. Reportedly, the Copresence feature will make use of Bluetooth to authenticate based on proximity without approval as in Android Beam and Wi-Fi to transfer files. Also, it is claimed to use an element of location based data in order to determine those devices that are nearby and ready for sharing.

There is a possibility for this feature to have a strong integration with the Hangouts chat application based on the graphics that were revealed in the Services APK. It would be sensible for Google to house this feature in Hangouts app as well. Lately, we have been developer documentation for a Copresence Chrome API, patents and issue reports for the API pointing to that service.

From the concept, it sounds like Copresence is a modified version of Google Nearby and Apple AirDrop features that let users to share content with devices that are close to it. As for the availability of the feature, it is claimed by the report that it will be rolled out in the coming weeks. As the next generation mobile OS Android 5.0 Lollipop is around the corner, it would be a good time for Copresence to debut.
