For those who prefer Large display phones, Panasonic has today introduced P55 with a 5.5 Inch display, quad core SoC and Slim textured back design. The budget quad core competition is more intense than ever before. Let’s take a look at the hardware specs and discuss if it stands a change.

Camera and Internal Storage

Panasonic is offering an 8 MP AF rear shooter and judging by the MP count this is good enough in this price range and you can also record 1080p full HD videos as well. There is a basic 2 MP shooter for selfies at the front as well. MP is hardly a judge for camera quality and Panasonic P55 will have to primarily compete with Zenfone 5 in this segment.

Internal storage is paltry 4 GB. Most manufacturers have moved on to at least 8 GB storage model and perhaps this is the weakest link in P55 chain. 32 GB MicroSD support is present, but since all apps can’t be moved to external storage, this could be a deal breaker if you frequently like to experiment with apps.

Processor and Battery

Panasonic P55 employs 1.2 GHz quad core processor aided by 1 GB RAM. Panasonic hasn’t talked about the details of the chipset used just yet, but it’s most likely a Snapdragon 400 unit. We will update you on this info shortly.

Battery capacity is 2500 mAh which is expected to last one day with moderate usage. Since the display size lies at the phablet end of the spectrum, this is more of a necessity. Good thing is that the battery is removable.

Display and Other features

The IPS LCD display is 5.5 inches in size with 1280 x 720p resolution. Since its an IPS LCD display you can expect good viewing angles. The 267 ppi large sized display will help this phone distinguish from most other budget quad core crowd under 10k.

Software is Android 4.4.4 Kitkat and conventional Panasonic customizations, like Pop-i Player, Music Café and Gesture Play are included. Other features include 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. Panasonic P55 measures 149.7x77x7.9mm and weighs a moderate 149 grams.

Internal Storage 4 GB, Expandable

Camera 8 MP/ 2 MP

Panasonic P55 will compete with phones like Moto G 2nd Gen, Asus Zenfone 5 and Panasonic P81 in India.

What we Like

  • 5.5 Inch IPS LCD HD Display
  • Capacious battery

What we Don’t Like

  • Only 4 GB internal storage

Panasonic P55 seems do several things right and we are eager to spend some more time with it. Its major rival will be Panasonics own P81 which is selling for almost the same price (11,000 INR) with 8 GB storage, 13 MP rear shooter and similar 5.5 Inch HD display. That doesn’t give much reason to choose P55 over P81, at the moment.

  1. Dear Sir

I got my Panasonic p55 today and when I installed link2sd / app manager.. My apps are not moving to SD card.. It’s says link2sd couldn’t obtain root access

If you have root access make sure you select all or or grant.. This is the first time I am getting this problem in a android mobile.

  2. I m really confuse to properly using of its features plz help me actually i want to remove my some app that is removeble apps however I m not able to move it into sd. some apps show after downloading that can be removed this app and as per instruction i do but there is nothing like that what exactly to be done as per instruction so I wanna to know it setting features to use.

    • you can’t remove pre-installed apps or transfer them. You can just disable them from apps info page (settings>>APP>>ALL>>Select App).
For moving to SD card, if you see option on the App info page “Move to External Storage” only then you can move apps to SD card.

      • Bt according to given instruction at ur site that external sd is available that given inbuilt internal storage can be expended more .so plz tell me when i lowland some apps from play store after downloading it gives msg that as ur desirable to save it ns when i m going to do so there gives a msg in blue sheet that move it bt there is movable option

  3. Hi Deepak,

I bought this mobile on Feb 7,2015 after 2 weeks when I just switched off my phone I found it not taking start up when i make it on only the panasonic logo is showing repeatedly. I visited to service centre twice and installed the software but they cant identified why this problem is appearing. I have just installed whats app, 360 security apps, live wallpaper and master locker apps from play store. People from service centre saying its happening due to some apps but nobody can identify what apps is creating this problem. I doubt whether its happening due to 360 security not sure. Please give a solution and suggest me a proper apps which i should use to remove junk files.

    With Regards,

    • people at service center should be able to help you. The apps you have mentioned shouldn’t be a problem. what solution have they recommended?

      • Exactly I have said this to service centre people that how can an apps can make my phone dead while that particular apps is running quite fine in other mobiles like micromax and samsung…Then service centre people asked me not to download those apps as those are not supporting in panasonic and they even dont know what type of apps will not support..Anyways I myself recognised the root cause of this problem due to that particular apps after visiting to service centre 5 times with this issue so I am just using facebook and whatsapp now and nothing else who knows what apps will again make my phone dead.. I am very much disappointed with panasonic and I will never buy any product of panasonic in future and nor I will suggest any one to buy.

      • I find it out myself that any kind of other screen lock doesnot supports this phone. Due to that apps my phone stopped working wihhout that apps my phone is running quite good.
