Update 10-1-15: Xiaomi will be updating Xiaomi Redmi Note and Xiaomi Redmi 1s in next couple of months.
Xiaomi has big plans for India and the company is trying hard to please its existing customers in the nascent stage of India operation. According to our sources at the Chinese manufacturer is testing MIUI 6 update for Xiaomi Mi3 and Xiaomi Redmi 1s in India. The Redmi 1s will be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat by January.
The Android KitKat isn’t the latest Android flavor anymore, but is definitely more future proof than Android Jellybean. Since Xiaomi phones use heavily customized MIUI, you won’t notice any of the Stock UI changes, but you will benefit from better compatibility with Playstore Apps.
The Xiaomi Mi3 was already launched with Android 4.4.2 KitKat in India while the Xiaomi Redmi 1s was launched with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Android version update will also instill more confidence in Redmi Note buyers, since it’s still running on dated Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.
The MIUI 6 will be the noticeable change. MIUI 6 will offer enhanced security, power efficiency, more home screen gestures, more customization options for home screen and widgets, flatter and more vibrant user interface and a more reliable notification center. Android 4.4 KitKat will further add immersive mode, cloud printing, etc.
