Samsung Z1, First Tizen based Smartphone Introduced in India

Samsung has today introduced its Tizen OS powered smartphone in India, dubbed as Samsung Z1. Looks like Samsung will be using its Tizen based smartphones to compete in entry level and midrange price segment where it’s bleeding money due to increased competition from domestic and Chinese players.


Samsung Z1, the first Tizen smartphone, comes with a 4 Inch PLS LCD WVGA display with 800 X 480 pixels spread across it. The smartphone is powered by 1.2 GHz dual core processor with 768 MB RAM, 4 GB internal storage and 32 GB MicoSD support. The chipset can play 720p HD videos.


Imaging hardware is also fairly basic with a 3 MP rear camera coupled with a VGA front camera. You can record VGA videos at 15 fps. There is an auto selfie mode and another mode for low light photography.


Software is Samsung’s own Tizen OS 2.3. The browser is powered by UC, which is known for swift and light UC browser on Android. The default Tizen browser let’s you save pages from the web and these can be viewed later without internet access. Here Maps with full offline support also comes pre-installed on the device.

Battery capacity is 1500 mAh and a battery saver mode is also present to help you in critical conditions. Samsung is also offering 500 MB of free 3G data for Aircel and Reliance customers with Samsung Z1. Samsung Z1 is expected to arrive in India for less than 6,000 INR on January 18th 2014.
