LED flash might not be the answer to perfect selfies, but it should definetly help with familiar low light problem in selfies, further exaggerated by modest fixed focus sensors. Let’s take a look at Gionee Pioneer P6 hardware.
Camera and Internal Storage
Gionee is using a 5 MP rear camera, which is not the best in terms of raw megapixel count. Camera enthusiasts can opt for phones like Lenovo A6000, Xiaomi Redmi 1S or Zenfone 5 in the same price range. The selfie camera is a basic 2 MP fixed focus camera with an LED flash support for some support in low light conditions. Primary camera features include touch focus, full HD video recording eraser, gesture shot, etc.
Internal storage is 8 GB and this can be further increased by another 32 GB using MicroSD card. This is again very standard in this price range and shouldn’t be a deal breaker for most people.
Processor and Battery
The processor used is quad core MediaTek MT6582 clocked at 1.3 GHz with 1 GB RAM and Mali 400 GPU. This tried and tested chipset has been around for most of 2014. You can expect great day to day performance and good gaming experience.
Battery capacity is moderate 1950 mAh which again sounds average in this price range. The battery will last for 9.5 hours of talk time on 3G and 13.5 hours of talk time on 2G. The battery can fully charge in 2.5 to 3 hours and last for around 162 hours of standby time on 2G.
Display and Other Features
The TFT display is 5 Inches in size with FWVGA 854 x 480 pixel resolution. Gionee hasn’t used an IPS LCD screen or a protection layer on top. Specs wize, this sounds like an average display in this price range. The handset measures 142.8×74.3×8.6mm and weighs 150 grams.
Other features include 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The dual SIM phone is running Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box, which will suffice for great android experience.

What we Like
- Selfie flash
- MT6582 quad core chipset
What we Didn’t Like
- Display sharpness
- Battery capacity
Gionee Pioneer P6 isn’t a very impressive phone in a fiercely aggressive price range. The handset is meant to retail on offline stores and the price will gradually diminish with time. The major highlight is the LED flash for the front camera. Other then the selfie flash, it sounds like a very standard MT6582 smartphone which were abundant over last year. If you are looking for a smartphone with front LED flash, you can consider buying Pioneer P6 at 8,890 INR.
