“It will enable the general public to get access to a large number of security related applications. The MHA will give priority on this website to host such applications which provide security in emergency situations to women, children, senior citizens and other vulnerable groups,” the official statement added.

Other apps which will get priority include tools to monitor objectionable content posted on the internet and tools to monitor, prevent, detect and report cyber crime. The ministry is also open to apps that create awareness about good security practices among people which includes educating them about legal provisions and facilitating legal services to the needy persons.

App developers which meet the basic screening criteria will be provided with hardware and middleware cloud support to try and test these apps.

All apps will be audited before they are posted on the portal. An expert group constituted by ministry will evaluate all apps based on parameters like usefulness, innovation, public acceptance, technology used, maintenance, updation and feedback mechanism.
