Moto X Play Hands On Overview, Features and Photos

When Motorola announced the global launch of their Moto X successors back in July, we didn’t think they would be available in India so quickly but as it turns out, both phones are on their way here with the Moto X Play rumored to launch on September 14th! We managed to get our hands on both these devices at the IFA 2015 event in Berlin (read about the Moto X Style here) and here is our initial hand on with the Moto X Play.

Our editor gets a look at the Moto X Play at the IFA 2015 event in Berlin

Physical Overview

The Moto X Play is a fairly decent looking phone in a way that nobody would be offended by its design. The back has a rubber-panel with nice striations that give it excellent grip and at 169 grams, isn’t too heavy.

The top houses the 3.5 mm audio jack with the SIM tray while the power and the volume controls are present on the right side and the microUSB port at the bottom. At the base of the phone, you can see the 3 touch press buttons that make up for the absence of a physical home button.

Encasing the Moto X Play and protecting the 5.5” 1080p Full HD display is Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with Speaker grills on the top and bottom of the phone screen. If you open the back cover, you will find the non-replaceable 3630 mAh battery that powers the device well past a day.

User Interface

The Moto X Play runs on Android Lollipop 5.1.1 which is the latest version of the Android OS and should be Marshmallow-ready when it arrives in a few months. Navigating through the UI is not only a breeze for the folks familiar with the interface but it’s quite easy for first timers too.

Running on 2 GB of RAM, with the system taking up under 800 MB and the apps occupying another 350 MB, the phone is operates with over 800 MB free.

Camera Overview

What could be touted as one of the highlights on this Moto X Play is the 21 MP primary camera with f /2.0 aperture with Burst mode, Night mode, Auto HDR and Panorama modes to help with the picture taking. Other features would include the 1080p HD video (30 fps ) capabilities along with Slow motion video, Video Stabilization, 4X digital zoom and dual LED flash.

The front camera is a 5 MP camera that should be quite satisfactory for the selfie enthusiasts.

Price & Availability

The Moto X Play is expected to retail sometime next week and we believe it to be under 25,000 INR approximately.

Our Thoughts

The Moto X Play is an ideal phone for photography enthusiasts who get to take great-quality pictures with the 21 MP camera and also use the 3630 mAh battery to keep the device running for more than a day at the very least.

What do you think?!
