The Canvas 5 has a 5.2 inch IPS FHD display, and the weight is 149 gms. The finishing and build quality is great. It has a Gorilla glass in front and a faux leather back cover. Micromax has been working hard on the design; it is a sleek phone with a 2.5D curved touch panel that makes it look amazing from the sides. One handed use is not a problem on this phone, as it has a sleek body and thin bezel on the sizes of the screen.

On the front, there is a speaker grill, LED notification light, LED flash next to the front camera located above the 5.2 inch display.

User Interface

The Micromax Canvas 5 comes with the Android Lollipop, the notification panel and menu options remain the same as the stock Android. There is no app launcher in the UI; you can swipe to the next screen to browse through the apps menus. You can add widgets and manage screens according to your convenience. It features Smart awake gestures, which can be used to go to your favorite app directly from the locked screen. Few more gestures are available like tap to wake up and swipe from bottom to launch search etc.

Camera Overview

Micromax has been trying to raise the camera quality in their phones for quite a while now, it has succeeded a couple of times and now it has done a good job again. The rear camera in Canvas 5 has a 13 MP Samsung 3M2sensor with PDAF. It captures decent amount of colour and details, in fact the auto focus works really fast and accurate. In day light, the results were convincing but, the pictures became overexposed when the light source was against the camera. At night, this camera performs average and a little bit of noise can be noticed in dark-light pictures without flash.

The front camera comes with a fixed focus 5 MP lens, it is capable of clicking beautiful selfies using different modes and it captures good amount of details. The camera UI is filled with a few interesting modes to have fun with, and bring out the creative side of yours.

Comparison & Competition

At this price point, the Micromax Canvas 5 will face some tough competition, as it comes under the overcrowded lower mid range of smartphones. The possible competitors will be like Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen), Lenovo K3 Note, Meizu M2 Note, Xolo Black 1X and a few more.

Conclusion

The Micromax Canvas 5 is a very good phone in terms of design, display and usability. Considering the overall offering from the manufacturers, this device is one of the best devices launched in this price range recently. Priced at 11,999, it offers a full HD display with fine quality design and a fair set of specs which makes it stand aside in the league for now. The only thing that may be a cause of concern will be the limited 64 GB memory expansion, which sounds pretty uncommon when paired with such specs.
