5 Areas Where Netflix in India Can Improve Over Time

Netflix recently launched their services in India last week and with the coming of Netflix, we saw a lot of love and a lot of hate for it on social media. Even though the love was more than the hate, I came up with a few areas that Netflix can improve over in the coming time. With these areas, I’m not saying Netflix is bad, but all I’m trying to say is that these areas can be improved upon to attract many more users than Netflix has already got in India.

Netflix in India

#1 More Indian Content

Let’s face it. When any new service provider comes up in a country, they are expected to have a good collection of that content that the country’s audience will enjoy. That’s not the case with Netflix. When you log in to the website, you will not find your daily dose of Indian cinema and TV. You are fairly limited in terms of the Indian content that you can find on Netflix. If this were to improve over time, it might be a great move for Netflix.

#2 Access to the Entire Netflix Library

In India, it’s not just the Indian content, but Netflix has not even launched the entire Netflix library for the customers in India. This is because for some shows, like the popular “House of Cards”, Netflix has given exclusive rights to Zee India for broadcasting it, and they won’t be able to do broadcast it on Netflix. This is just one example and there are a lot of other videos that are not visible to the Indian audience as of now.

#3 Ability to Download Content for Streaming On The Go

Netflix does not support downloading content to your device so you can watch it in offline mode, at least in India. This can be a make or break deal for a lot of subscribers, who would want to watch their favorite TV show or movie on the go, and would not want to use their 3G/4G connection for the same. If an ability to download videos for offline streaming is launched, it will be a great benefit for the users.

#4 Compression of Videos

Most of the internet providers in India make use of a Fair Usage Policy, that entitles you to a high-speed internet for certain data limit, and after that, you are downgraded to a really slow internet connection. Because of this, people would not prefer to stream the large file size content on their devices, despite the quality being offered. If Netflix can find a way to compress videos while retaining their quality, then that will be something great for the Indian audience.

#5 Pricing

The last but not the least, pricing. When you compare Netflix to other media streaming services in the country, you’ll find that the pricing of Netflix is higher than what others are offering in the country. Even though some sources have confirmed that Netflix will reduce their pricing in the coming months, at this time, the pricing of the service is something that might get people away from it.

Conclusion

Anything is not perfect when it is launched, but it can be made better over time. During the course of this article, I discussed all the areas where I think Netflix can improve in India over time. If you have any more areas where you think Netflix can improve upon, do share them with us in the comments section below. Also, feel free to share the post with your friends and family so they’re aware of this too.
