MWC 2016: Xiaomi Mi 4S with Snapdragon 808 and Fingerprint Scanner Launched

Xiaomi held a launch event in China, prior to their launch event at Mobile World Congress today and announced two new smartphone at the event in China. Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi Mi 4S initially and then moved on to announce the Xiaomi Mi 5, the one that everyone was waiting for. The Xiaomi Mi 4S was a surprise for everyone as no one had expected them to launch that smartphone.

The Mi 4S is an updated version of the older Mi 4. The Mi 4S features a 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, surrounded by a metallic frame for the phone. Under the hood, the phone is running on a Snapdragon 808 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM and an Adreno 418 GPU.

On the storage side of things, the Xiaomi Mi 4S packs 64GB of onboard storage, that can be expanded via a microSD card. Apart from this, the phone comes with a fingerprint scanner and an IR sensor.


The primary camera on the device is a 13-megapixel shooter, with dual LED flash accompanying it. The secondary camera on the device is a 5-megapixel shooter, with no extra features as such.

Coming on to the connectivity options on the Xiaomi Mi 4S, you’ll find that the phone features all the options that you could ask for including 4G, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, dual SIM and USB Type-C. The phone runs on Android Marshmallow based MIUI 7 and is completely powered by a massive 3260mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0.

Pricing and Availability

The phone will be available in China starting March 1st for a price of 1699 Yuan (approximately INR 18,000 or USD 260). The pricing and availability of this phone in other regions is still not mentioned.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi 4s is a great device and the best part is that it is priced right. It will be a great competitor to the Nexus 5X in India, provided that they launch the phone in India soon. We have a Xiaomi event on the 3rd of March in India, and hoping that they will give us hints about the launch of this device along with launching the Redmi Note 3.
