Sony Xperia XZ And X Compact Announced At IFA

Sony has announced two new Xperia smartphones at the ongoing IFA 2016 trade show. Called the Xperia XZ and X Compact, these two new smartphones are apparently Sony’s fall 2016 lineup. Competing with flagships from other competitors will be the Xperia XZ, while the Xperia X Compact will handle the mid-rangers.

Sony Xperia XZ Specs

Starting with the flagship first, the Xperia XZ comes with a 5.2 inch full HD IPS LCD display, with a pixel density of ~424 PPI. It comes with the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Of course, Sony will begin work on the Android 7.0 Nougat update soon, and the Xperia XZ is going to get it too.

Sony Xperia XZ

The Xperia XZ comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage, with support for microSD cards up to 256 GB. While that may seem quite ordinary, Sony has its focus fixed on the camera, performance and battery life aspects.

You get a 23 MP camera with a IMX300 sensor and f/2.0 aperture, phase detection and laser autofocus, assisted by an LED flash. The XZ can record up to 2160p videos at 30 FPS, or 1080p videos at 60 FPS. This sensor comes with something called Triple Image Sensing – using colour detection, phase detection and laser assist, the camera will now be able to track moving objects in a much better manner. This should improve the overall focusing of images, allowing you to capture much better photos. Like many Sony phones, the Xperia XZ also comes with a dedicated camera button.

If that is not enough, we are looking at perhaps the best camera sensor yet on the front of the phone – the XZ comes with a 13 MP f/2.0 front camera.

In other areas, you get a 2900 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, a USB Type C reversible connector and all the top connectivity options. The Xperia XZ also features a fingerprint sensor.

Sony Xperia X Compact Specs

The Xperia X is the mid-range option from Sony. It comes with a 4.6 inch 720p display and the hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor.

Sony Xperia X Compact

The X Compact succeeds the Xperia X that was launched earlier this year. Besides the 4.6 inch HD display, it comes with the same 23 MP IMX300 sensor that the Xperia XZ has. However, instead of the 13 MP front camera, you get a 5 MP snapper. Rounding up the other specs are 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage with microSD card support, 2700 mAh battery, Quick Charge 2.0, fingerprint sensor, USB Type C reversible connector and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Pricing And Availability

While Sony has not revealed the pricing of the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact, we should know more soon as the two phones are going to be launched in the next week.
