Physical Overview
The InFocus Epic 1 comes as the first smartphone in the new Epic series from the company. It features a metal panel on the back, a 16 MP camera with phase detection autofocus and a fingerprint sensor. Apart from that, it may also be the cheapest smartphone to come with the new USB Type C port, in addition with included support for fast charging.
The front of the phone features the 5.5 inch full HD IPS LCD display. Just above the display, you will find the circular ear piece, the front camera and the ambient light sensor. While most companies go with a linear ear piece, the InFocus Epic 1 comes with a circular one. It does make the phone look a little different, especially in its price range.
The bottom of the phone is bare. The phone comes with on-screen navigation buttons.
The back of the phone houses most of the other stuff. Towards the top, you will find the camera module and a secondary mic. Just below that, there’s an LED flash. The fingerprint sensor rests below the LED flash, with the InFocus branding in the middle.
The left side of the phone houses the SIM card slot.
On the right, you will find the volume rockers and the power button.
The top of the phone houses the 3.5mm audio jack and an IR sensor.
On the bottom, the USB Type C port and the speakers are present.
InFocus Epic 1 Display
The InFocus Epic 1 comes with a 5.5 inch full HD display. At 1920 x 1080 pixels on a 5.5 inch display, you get a pixel density of ~401 PPI. In our testing, we found the colour reproduction and accuracy to be very good. We took the device outdoors for more testing and found the brightness to be adequate enough with very good viewing angles.
Camera Overview
The InFocus Epic 1 is one of the very few smartphones in this price range to come with a 16 MP camera and phase detection autofocus. The camera also supports image stabilization, object tracking, apart from a range of other features and modes in the camera app. You can record up to 1080p videos at 30 FPS using the rear camera.
On the front, you get an 8 MP camera with f/1.8 aperture for selfies and video calling.
