GoPro Fusion Spherical Camera Can Shoot VR Content In 5.2K

GoPro has unveiled a new 360-degree spherical camera called GoPro Fusion that can shoot 360-degree videos (VR) in 5.2K at 30 frames per second. It can capture the scene in every cable simultaneously. However, it can also capture non-VR content and non-video content, thanks to OverCapture feature present on GoPro Fusion. The OverCapture feature enables users to pick Full HD imagery out of 5.2K spherical content. Despite sporting these advanced features, it comes with a smaller footprint.

GoPro founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman said, “Fusion is just that, the ability to capture every angle simultaneously…as though you had six GoPro cameras fused into one. Whether filming for VR or traditional fixed-perspective content, Fusion represents the state-of-the-art in the versatile spherical capture”.

GoPro did not reveal the specifications of the camera, however, it has launched a pilot program for Fusion so that professional content creators, brands and agencies can try it before it is commercially available to everyone. Fusion may be available for purchase for everyone by the end of 2017.

Speaking of the announcement, Jess Foley, GoPro Senior Product Manager of Spherical Solutions, said: “I have been looking forward to this day for some time. We have a pilot program starting soon, and I cannot wait to see how innovative content creators will use Fusion to help them tell their stories. The goal of Fusion is to distill the best of GoPro—quality, mountability and durability—into a pocketable product that will wow our professional customers”.
