Microsoft’s New Surface Laptop Takes On Apple’s MacBook Air

Microsoft has just launched a brand new Surface Laptop. With a starting price of $999 (Rs. 64,000 approx.), the ultra-thin notebook features 7th Generation Intel Core i5 or i7 SoC. The new Microsoft Surface Laptop comes pre-installed with Windows 10 S operating system. One of the key aspects of the latest PC is its exceptional battery life which even shames the Apple MacBook Air.

The Surface Laptop aims to conquer the niche left vacant by the MacBook Air. The latter has been an incredibly popular laptop among college goers as well as entry-level professionals. However, last year, Apple replaced the MacBook Air with a trimmed down version of the MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, the latter costs significantly more than the former. The new Microsoft Surface laptop sits right in the sweet spot left blank due to the absence of an updated MacBook Air.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Specifications

Coming to the specifications, the Surface Laptop doesn’t disappoint. It sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense Display with a resolution of 2256 x 1504. The screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio and packs 3.4 million pixels. The multi-touch enabled display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and supports Surface Pen.

The portable computer runs Windows 10 S out of the box. For starters, this is a secured version of the Windows 10 that doesn’t support third-party applications outside the Windows App Store. However, you can upgrade to the normal Windows 10 Pro without any extra charge.

Speaking of the connectivity options, the Surface Laptop features a USB 3.0 port, 3.5 mm headphone jack, Mini DisplayPort apart from the usual dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth v4.0 LE. The notebook is equipped with stereo microphones and Dolby Audio Premium certified Omnisonic speakers.

Moving on to the battery life, Microsoft claims that the Surface Laptop can endure up to 14.5 hours of video playback if fully charged. The newest notebook measures at 30.8 cm x 22.33 cm x 1.45 cm and weighs just a bit above 1.2 Kg.
