HTC updates Edge Sense, adds social media support

Launched back in June this year,  the HTC U11 is receiving an update for its squeezable frame feature. Labelled as the HTC Edge Sense, the HTC U11 features squeezable edges that can be used to click images and switch between cameras.

HTC has now introduced new features to make the Edge Sense more useful. You can now use HTC Edge Sense as a tap or double tap feature in some applications. The usage of squeezable camera trigger is now expanded to social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Apart from this, the Edge sense feature can also be used to zoom in and zoom out in Google Maps.

About HTC Edge Sense

Edge Sense is a unique feature on the HTC U11 that was launched in June here in India. The feature lets you access your U11’s cameras, switch between cameras and click images by squeezing its edges.

Updating this feature, HTC has now added more commands to make Edge Sense useful. Now you can set commands based on a short or long squeeze. Also, you can squeeze your phone to act as a tap or double tap command. For example, when browsing photos, you can zoom into an image by using the Edge Sense feature.


You can now play or pause music using the HTC Edge Sense which could prove handy as you won’t need to press any buttons or wake the screen. Maps can also be zoomed in using this feature on your HTC U11.

In terms of cameras, the HTC Edge Sense can now be used in camera applications of Facebook and Instagram as well. This means you can switch between cameras and take images for your Instagram stories using Edge Sense on your HTC U11.

HTC U11 Specifications

Coming to the smartphone that comes with Edge Sense, let us talk about the HTC U11. Starting with the display, you get a 5.5 inch Super LCD panel with quad HD resolution and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

In terms of optics, you get a 12MP primary camera with Ultrapixel 3.0 and a f/1.7 aperture. A front-facing 16MP camera is also there with f/2.0 aperture.

Backed by a powerful Snapdragon 835 processor, the HTC U11 features an Adreno 540 GPU. In terms of memory, you get 6GB RAM with 128GB onboard storage with 2TB expansion option. Running Android 7.1 Nougat with Sense UI, the HTC U11 is set to be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo.

Powered by a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery, the HTC U11 is a dual SIM 4G VoLTE smartphone. Other connectivity options include a USB Type-C port, WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC.
