Nokia will not unlock the Bootloader of Nokia 8 due to security reasons

After being launched Globally, the Nokia 8 was recently launched in India as the flagship device from HMD Global led Nokia. The Nokia 8 is a flagship smartphone with stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the Bootloader on the smartphone is locked and will probably remain that way.

In reply to a tweet asking for bootloader unlocking, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global stated that Nokia is not issuing official methods to unlock the bootloader for ‘security’ reasons. The bootloader unlocking is a necessary step if you want to root your phone and have SuperUser access to your Android device. However, the company will be sharing kernel modifications with the open source community.

Why is Bootloader Unlocking done?

Well, to start with, you need bootloader unlocking to root your Android smartphone. By rooting, you get access to more customization options and tweaks that are hidden from the casual users. Usually, there are official methods and options for bootloader unlocking but Nokia 8 seems to be missing those.

After bootloader unlocking, you can apply system-wide themes by rooting, install custom fonts, use apps like Substratum, Greenify, and even add custom recovery like TWRP. While there are certainly other methods of rooting the Nokia 8, Bootloader unlocking is always much appreciated.
