OnePlus will soon discontinue the OnePlus 5 in India

OnePlus 5T goes on sale for the first time in India today via Amazon India’s early access and OnePlus experience stores. Now, the company plans to discontinue the previous version, the OnePlus 5. OnePlus has confirmed that the company will not be making any more OnePlus 5 devices and the 5-month-old phone will be discontinued once its current stock is sold out.

Vikas Aggarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India, in an interview with The Indian Express confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will be discontinued once it goes out of stock. He told that the company has been following the same pattern with previous devices as well. To recall, OnePlus 3T was discontinued after its last batch was sold out during Diwali.

The same goes for the OnePlus 5, which will also be sold out in sometime, and we’ll have only one product OnePlus 5T in the market. As a brand, we want to make sure there is one device which is the latest, and the previous devices are usually sold out once the new product launches,” says Vikas.

On asking about why did the company launched a new upgraded version so soon, he says that as OnePlus 5 was less than six months old and it was best possible available back then. But to compete with the other flagships they have to launch the OnePlus 5T.

OnePlus 5T launch

Since then many phones have come which are offering similar, if not better specifications. So as a company which focuses on premium segment, we need to make sure our phones compete with the current available flagships in the market. The OnePlus 5T will do just that,” adds Vikas.

He also added that OnePlus will not launch any mid-range device and will continue to concentrate on the premium end market. “We are not looking to launch a mid-range device just to expand the market share,”. It is also to be mentioned that as per a report from IDC, OnePlus is among the top three premium smartphone brands in India after Apple, and Samsung.

So, when the last batch of OnePlus 5 will be sold off, the OnePlus 5T will become the sole OnePlus phone. The first early access sale of OnePlus 5T was held today on Amazon India for Prime members and on Oneplusstore.in.

OnePlus fans can also participate in the early access sale at OnePlus Experience Store. OnePlus 5T has been priced the same as OnePlus 5 and the 6GB/64GB variant is available at Rs. 32,999 and the 8GB/128GB variant costs Rs. 37,999. It has features like 18:9 Full Optic AMOLED display, 20+16 MP dual rear cameras, Snapdragon 835 processor and much more.
