HTC U11 Life starts receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for its HTC U11 Life smartphone in the US. Currently, the new update is being rolled out to the unlocked models and the company has also promised the update for T-Mobile HTC U11 Life soon. HTC is releasing the OTA update in phases, so it will take a few days to reach all the users.

HTC launched the U11 Life as its new affordable smartphone earlier this year which comes in two variants. The US version of U11 Life was launched with HTC Sense on top of Android Nougat, while the company also launched an Android One model for global markets that already runs stock Android Oreo out of the box.

How to install Android Oreo on HTC U11 Life

Since the Oreo update is an OTA (Over the Air) roll-out process which is being carried out in stages, so it will take a few weeks to reach all users. Until then, HTC U11 Life users in the US can check for updates manually.


Go to the Settings->About Phone ->System Updates->check for the new firmware. Once it is available, select “Yes, I’m in.” After the file is downloaded, select “Install now.” After the update is installed, the phone will restart automatically. And, Voila! Your HTC U11 Life now runs Oreo.

Features coming with Android 8.0 Oreo

HTC U11 Life in the US, which currently runs Android Nougat, will get several new features from the latest Android Oreo update along with latest November security patch. Some of the features include extended battery life, picture-in-picture mode, smart text selection, notification dots and faster boot times to name a few.

The company already released the Oreo update for its 2017 flagship HTC U11 earlier this month. They have also released the list of HTC smartphones that will get Oreo before the first quarter of 2018. So, after U11 and U11 Life, HTC U Ultra and HTC 10 are expected to get the new OS update in the first quarter of 2018.
