Apple may launch an entry-level iPhone with 6.1 inch full HD+ display

Apple is once again expected to launch an entry-level iPhone just like the Apple iPhone SE it launched back in 2016. This iPhone is expected to come with a 6.1 inch LED display. A report from China Time has revealed that the upcoming low priced iPhone from Apple will feature an almost bezel-less display with FHD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

The report also claims that Apple might use Japan Display’s “Full Active” LCD technology. The upcoming iPhone 2018 will feature these Full Active LCDs and it requires an ultra-thin 0.5mm bezels around the display panel. The display on this low priced smartphone might have slimmer bezels than the iPhone X.

The “Full Active” LCD technology from Japan Display will have full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution with 18:9 aspect ratio. If the reports are accurate, then the future iPhones which are going to be introduced this year will have this technology and the notch we have already seen on iPhone X. Currently, there are some smartphones in the market like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 which are already using a Full Active LCD display.

Security Analyst Mia Chung Kuo had stated earlier that the upcoming iPhone might have a pixel density of about 320 PPI. The pixel density of the 6.5 inch model is expected to be approximately ~500 PPI. The new reports hint that the pixel density of the display is going to be 395 PPI on the 6.1 inch model. Apple is also going to discontinue the iPhone X this year around July or August.
