Airtel now offers Hotstar streaming via Airtel TV app

Bharti Airtel has announced a partnership with video streaming service Hotstar to expand its content portfolio on its Airtel TV app. The deal will offer TV shows, movies and other content of Hotstar in India to all the Airtel customers until June 2018 for free.

Airtel has already signed deals with other streaming services such as Eros Now, Sony LIV and HOOQ to enrich its content offerings. Now, this latest partnership comes just a month after Airtel signed a deal with Amazon to offer one year of free Amazon Prime membership to its postpaid and broadband customers. Airtel TV now has access to more than 350 LIVE TV channels and nearly 10,000 movies.

Free Hotstar via Airtel TV

Airtel TV app is offering free content as a part of promotional offer till June 2018 to its all customers. Customers need to download the latest version of the Airtel TV app to access the service. All the Airtel customers can avail around 100,000 hours of content from Hotstar’s library that includes shows from 22 channels and over 3000 movies.

The Hotstar catalog that is made available to Airtel TV includes movies and shows is in 9 languages and even includes regional languages such as Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. Moreover, Star India also has the digital rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament.


An Airtel spokesperson told that Airtel TV will offer everything that’s on Hotstar. However, it’s currently not clear whether this deal also comprises Hotstar’s premium services as well, that are usually available to customers through a paid subscription.

Commenting on the partnership, Sameer Batra, CEO – Wynk, said, “We are delighted to have Hotstar onboard as a long-term partner in our endeavor to build a world-class digital content ecosystem. Their rich content library will add immense value to our content play and add to the user experience.”

It’s also worth mentioning here that Airtel rival Reliance Jio already has a similar partnership with Hotstar to offer content through its JioTV app.
