Xiaomi Redmi 5 launched in India starting at Rs 7999: Price, specifications and availability

Xiaomi has launched yet another budget smartphone in its Redmi line-up in India with the name Redmi 5. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is being touted as a ‘Compact Powerhouse’ and comes with features such as a big display, long battery life, fast processor, slim design, and good selfie camera.

Xiaomi had already the Redmi 5 smartphone in China back in December. Now, the smartphone comes in India with some upgrades. The Redmi 5 price in India starts at Rs. 7,999 and it will be available via Amazon India, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores.

The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 282ppi pixel density/ The dual-SIM (Nano) phone run MIUI 9 on top of Android Nougat 7.1. Dimension wise the phone measures 151.8×72.8×7.7mm and weighs 157 grams.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC clocked at 1.8 GHz and paired with Adreno 506 GPU. Further, memory wise, it is coupled with 2GB, 3GB or 4GB of RAM with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of inbuilt storage respectively, with support for microSD cards up to 128GB.


In the camera department, the Redmi 5 comes with a 12-megapixel rear camera that has features like f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with a soft-selfie light flash. The front camera also sports Xiaomi’s proprietary Beautify 3.0 feature.

There is a fingerprint sensor placed at the back of the smartphone just below the camera module. Connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS etc. There is a 3300mAh battery powering the phone.

The Redmi 5 price in India starts at Rs 7,999 for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant, while the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage model is priced at Rs 8,999 and lastly, the 4GB RAM / 64GB storage model is priced at Rs 10,999.

The Redmi 5 will be available via Amazon India, Mi.com, and Mi Home starting from March 20th. Along with this, Reliance Jio customers can also enjoy a Rs 2200 cashback offer in addition to 100% additional 4G data.
