Google Pay has been announced recently in some markets, allowing users to send money or request money from their contacts. Now, Google has announced that US users will be able to send/request money with Google Assistant by using voice commands.

Sam Kansara, Product Manager, Google Pay stated in a blog post written on Thursday,

“You can ask your Google Assistant to pay your friends back with Google Pay. You can easily send or request money from your contacts for free – using the Assistant on Android and iOS phones in the US.”

He further added, “To get started, just say ‘Hey Google, request $20 from Sam for the show tonight’ or ‘Hey Google, send Jane $15 for lunch today’ and let your Google Assistant do the rest.”

The Google Assistant will prompt the user to create a Google Pay account if haven’t created before when sending money for the first time. Google also confirmed that the money sending feature via Google Pay will be done on the Google Assistant activated features like Google Home as well.

The money transfer via Google Assistant will also need to confirm the request via any security measure like a fingerprint, or Google account password. The company hasn’t confirmed the rollout of this feature to other countries like India.

In the meanwhile, Facebook-owned WhatsApp has rolled out QR code payments support. This feature is in beta mode, the company hasn’t announced it publicly and it is not a widely available feature at this time.
