Realme X First Impressions: Realme’s leap to premium?

Realme X launched in India today, as the company had promised. The device came to India two months after it’s launch in China. Contrary to our expectations, it comes to India with the same hardware as its China version. Notably, this is the most premium phone from Realme till date with features like pop-up camera, 48MP sensor and it is costly too.

We have been using the Realme X for a few days now and here are our first impressions about it.

Realme X First Impressions

Realme X Build Quality: Polycarbonate but with a new pattern

Realme has again used a polycarbonate panel which is glossy and it looks attractive too. The Realme X comes in new gradient shades with a combination of two colors. We got the blue and purple color combination model which looks good. The gradient back panel also shows an S-shaped pattern while viewing at certain angles.

Realme X

This is Realme’s first phone with a full-screen notch less display. Although this is almost a year old trend still it’s great to see on Realme’s phone which itself is just one-year-old. The device offers more screen space with extremely thin bezels and a thin chin at the bottom.

If we talk about other aspects of design, the power and volume buttons are well-placed for a large phone like Realme X. The pop-up mechanism of the selfie camera is at the top center of the frame. The device is not so thick but still thicker than most of today’s devices.

One thing which was long expected from Realme was USB Type C and it finally fulfills with Realme X. There are 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and a single speaker grille on the bottom. The weight of the device is not too much.

Realme X Display: First time an AMOLED panel

The Realme X sports a 6.5-inch Samsung AMOLED panel. It comes with FHD+ (2340×1080) screen resolution. Realme X’s display offers bright and rich colors on the screen, thanks to the AMOLED panel. It also has good daylight visibility. The device also comes with an optical in-display fingerprint sensor which is fast for sure.

Realme X Camera: Finally a 48MP Sony sensor

This year a 48MP camera has been quite a trend among smartphone makers. Now, Realme too finally joined this trend with its Realme X. The company uses a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.7 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor.

The rear camera comes with a few photography modes like Portrait, HDR, Nightscape, Pano, etc. It can also record 4K resolution videos as well as Slow-mo. There is a Chroma Boost feature as well that enriches the colors in pictures.

The pop-up selfie camera is a 16MP f/2.0 sensor. The front camera also supports portrait and beauty modes. Check out some camera samples below.

Realme X Performance: Still SD 710

Realme X gets the same Snapdragon 710 chipset with up to 8GB of RAM just like the Realme 3 Pro. This 2.2GHz octa-core chipset with Adreno 616 GPU is good for gamers. It is capable of running games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 at high graphics.

We played these two games on Realme X without any lag. This offers the same performance as Realme 3 Pro. Here’s the AnTuTu benchmark score which is also similar.

For the OS, it runs on ColorOS 6 based on Android Pie. The ColorOS 6 comes with an app drawer that launches quickly. The UI feels fluid and launches apps quickly and there’s not an issue in multitasking as well.

Realme Battery: VOOC 3.0 Charger

The Realme X packs a 3,765mAh battery and it comes with VOOC 3.0 fast charging support. Just like Realme 3, this also comes with the 20W charger inside the box. The fast charger fills up the battery quickly even while gaming.

Realme X Connectivity: USB Type C is here

The company has offered USB Type C connectivity for fast charging and data transfer which also a first time for it. There is no support for storage expansion which would not be a problem for many as it comes with 128GB storage option.

Other connectivity features are there too like Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi and GPS, etc.

Wrapping Up

Realme’s latest phone is the company’s attempt to offer a mid-range premium phone. The phone does come with all the trending features of 2019 in the segment. The pop-up selfie camera design, AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint sensor, 48MP camera, Snapdragon 710 chipset, and VOOC 3.0 fast charging are some features that make it a premium phone in the mid-range segment.
