Redmi 8 Launched in India Starting at Rs. 7,999; Full Specs & Availability

Just a few days after the launch of Redmi 8A, Xiaomi has now launched the Redmi 8 smartphone in India. It is the successor of the Redmi 7 and comes with the same Dot Notch display, dual rear cameras, however, it comes with Snapdragon 439 processor compared to Snapdragon 632 in the Redmi 7. It also comes with some upgrades such as a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support via USB Type-C port.

Xiaomi‘s new budget phone has an Aura Mirror design that comes in Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red, Emerald Green, and Onyx Black colors. It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, comes with splash-resistant coating and packs a 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support via USB Type-C.

Redmi 8 Specifications

The Redmi 8 sports a 6.22-inch HD+ (1520 × 720 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is a notch display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. It has a Splash resistant (P2i coating) and a fingerprint sensor on the back.

The phone is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 439 12nm processor with Adreno 505 GPU. It packs up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB storage. The storage is expandable up to 512GB with microSD. The smartphone runs on Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10.


The dual camera set up comes with a 12MP rear camera with LED flash, Sony IMX363 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, Dual PD autofocus, and a secondary 2MP camera. The phone has an 8MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12μm pixel size.

Connectivity features include triple card slots, 3.5mm audio jack, Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C. It packs a 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging, however, you will get a 10W charger in the box.

Dimensions of the phone are 156.48×75.41×9.4mm and its weight is 188g.

Price & Availability

Redmi 8 price in India starts at Rs. 7999 for the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage version and goes up to Rs. 8,999 for the 4GB RAM+64GB storage version. However, for the first five million units, the 4GB+64GB model will also be available at Rs. 7,999 and customers who order a 3GB RAM variant will also get the 4GB RAM variant.

The handset will be available via Flipkart, mi.com and Mi Home Stores starting from October 12.
