Samsung launched the Galaxy A51 smartphone in India today. The latest smartphone in the A series has some upgrades over its predecessors in terms of camera and display. The new Galaxy A51’s key features include a 6.5-inch Infinity-O Super AMOLED display, Exynos 9611 10nm processor, quad rear cameras (48MP main + 12MP ultra-wide + 5MP macro and 5MP depth), 32MP front camera, and a 4,000 mAh battery with 15W fast charging support.

The new Galaxy A51 from Samsung comes at a price of Rs. 23,999 and will be available in stores from January 31. We have spent some time with Galaxy A51 before its launch and here are our first impressions of the phone.

Design and display

Starting with the design, the Galaxy A51 looks attractive with a large screen on the front and an eye-catching ‘Rhythmic’ design on the back panel in different colors; black, white, and blue. We got the blue variant and this new color looks really cool.

Despite sporting a big screen at 6.5 inches, the phone has super slim bezels, that keep the size of the handset very good for one-handed usage. With 158.5 x 73.6 x 7.9mm dimensions and 172g weight, the phone feels very light and compact.

Coming to the display, it sports a 6.5-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2400) Super AMOLED display with a tiny pin-hole camera on the screen. It is also it also the smallest punch-hole display from Samsung.

As expected, the screen is bright and colorful with good details. Also, there’s a fingerprint scanner embedded in the display.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 9611 10nm processor along with up to 8GB of RAM. There’s also 128GB of internal storage that supports expansion with a microSD card up to 512GB.

The smartphone runs Android 10 based Samsung One UI 2.0 on top. With this hardware and the latest software, we find the performance of the phone very smooth. There was no issue of lagging while multitasking and gaming experience was also great.

The phone also comes with some AI-based features made especially for India and the company calls it Alive Intelligence Features. These features include Smart Crop, Useful Cards, Alive Search and Multilingual Keyboard.

Cameras

The Galaxy A51 also doesn’t disappoint you when it comes to camera performance. The main camera is a 48MP sensor, and it’s accompanied by a 12MP 123-degree ultra-wide lens, 5MP macro sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor.

The camera gives some amazing results when it comes to daylight photography. There are options of wide-angle shooting, detailed close-up macro shots and blurred backgrounds with Live Focus mode and each photo we clicked offered good details and colors.

On the front, there’s a 32MP camera that is perfect for the selfie lovers. We managed to click a few selfies and results were good. Wait for our full review.

Battery

The phone packs a 4,000mAh battery, which is pretty standard for a handset these days. The battery lasts a day easily with heavy usage and you need a charger at the end of the day only. Also, you get a 15W fast charger in the box.

Connectivity

The phone comes with all the general connectivity features including Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS, a 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C port.

Early Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is an upgraded version of Galaxy A50s which was launched back in September with similar specs. The new phone comes with an upgraded Infinity O type display and with an upgraded rear camera setup. At this price point, Samsung offers a quality display, refreshing & compact design, good hardware, and an impressive camera. So, if you want an overall good mid-range smartphone, Galaxy A51 could be the right choice for you.
