Auto Expo 2020 Highlights: Futuristic Concept Cars Showcased at the Event

Auto Expo 2020, the 15th edition of Asia’s largest biennial auto show, has started from today. This year, more than 90 automobile companies from across the world are participating in this mega motor show. Alongside launching some of their cars for the Indian market, the automobile companies are also showcasing their futuristic concept cars at this event. Let’s have a look at some of the concept electric cars showcased at Auto Expo 2020.

Maruti Suzuki Concept Futuro-e

Maruti Suzuki India showcased its Futuro-E electric vehicle concept at the auto show. The car is a four-seater electric coupe SUV. The car’s interior with minimalistic layout comes in a blue and ivory theme. It has wide sweeping screens across the dashboard that houses various controls. The steering of the car also features a futuristic layout. Among the four seats, the front two can swivel around to face the rear ones. The Futuro-e concept is expected to go for production in the future.

Mahindra Funster

Mahindra and Mahindra showcased a wide range of concept vehicles, EVs, and commercial vehicles at the Auto Expo. Mahindra also focused on its range of electric vehicles and one of them includes the Funster. It is a convertible roadster electric concept that comes with dual electric motors and a full-time AWD system. The Funster comes with a top speed of 200 kmph and it can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5 seconds. The concept car is packed with a 59.1 kWh battery, offering a range of 520 km on a single charge.

Mahindra eKUV 100

Mahindra also launched its another EV eKUV100 at a price of just Rs 8.25 lakhs at Auto Expo. Thus eKUV100 has become the most affordable electric SUV in India. Mahindra claims it has enough battery pack for a range of 147km on a single charge but the company has not detailed the battery capacity. The liquid-cooled battery also has a fast-charging capability with a 0-80 percent charge in an hour. Another highlight of the eKUV100 is connected car technology through a smartphone app. This app offers remote diagnostics, remote door lock/unlock, location tracking and battery status update and can also be used to pre-cool the cabin of the car.


Renault Twizy

The Renault Twizy is a two-seater electric car by Renault which is already available in Europe. Now, it has just been showcased for the first time in India at Auto Expo 2020 in its single-seater format. When compared to other EVs, the Twizy Cargo does not offer much power output. Its rear-mid-mounted electric motor can only produce 17hp. The car is equipped with a 6.1kWh lithium-ion battery that is enough for a 100km range. It is very less likely that the company will launch the Twizy in India.

Kia Sonet

Kia Motors India showcased its sub-4m SUV concept- the Sonet at the Auto Expo. This sub-4m SUV is close-to-production and will be launched by August 2020. This will be Kia’s third car in India after Seltos and Carnival. Sonet is a premium offering like the Seltos and gets UVO connected car tech with an embedded eSIM, a touchscreen, and a Bose sound system. Other features include LED head and tail lamps, auto climate control, and an air purifier. The Kia Sonet could be priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 11 lakh when it is launched.

TATA Sierra

Tata Motors also introduced its electric SUV concept Sierra at the auto show. The car represents Tata’s innovation in the future with its style and design. This concept electric car comes with a boxy design as it has right-hand doors which means it has only two doors. It shows a sleek LED panel at its front and backlights, which is designed especially for the younger generation. The company has not revealed much about this concept car as of now.
