After launching its first foldable phone Galaxy Fold last year, Samsung has now launched its another foldable smartphone- Galaxy Z Flip. This new foldable phone comes with many changes compared to the previous one. Its foldable tech is similar to Motorola’s recently launched foldable smartphone Moto Razr. The new Galaxy Z Flip comes with a new horizontally folding display and it has glass over it. Let’s know all the details about this new foldable phone.
The new Galaxy Z Flip features a horizontal folding display and Samsung calls it Infinity Flex display. This flexible display is covered by bendable Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) that can last for 2,00,000 folds. There is a 1.1-inch secondary Super AMOLED display on the outside which shows notifications.
With the Galaxy Fold, Samsung faced many problems in the hinge only. This time the company has not repeated the same mistake and the Galaxy Z Flip uses the Hideaway Hinge mechanism. This Hideaway Hinge is more solid and strong and it can also open in any position because of its free stop folding tech. The hinge also uses “sweeper technology” to repel dirt and dust.
Samsung has also collaborated with Google to offer a new Flex Mode UI in its OneUI 2.0 with Android 10. This dedicated ‘Flex mode’ splits apps in half and puts the controls on the bottom half and makes the top half into a viewing area. It also offers Multi-Active Window to drag-and-drop quickly used apps.
The new Galaxy Z Flip sports a 6.7-inch FULL HD+ (2636 x 1080 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex display and an external 1.1-inch (300 x 112 pixels) Super AMOLED display.
The phone is powered by Snapdragon 855 Plus 7nm processor with Adreno 640 GPU. It packs 8GB RAM and 256GB storage which is not expandable. The smartphone runs on customized Android 10 with OneUI 2.0.
In the camera department, it has a 12MP primary wide-angle super speed dual pixel camera with f/1.8 aperture, 1.4μm Pixel Size, a 12MP ultra-wide lens with HDR10+ and OIS. The camera supports up to 8x digital zoom. There is a 10MP front camera.
Connectivity features on the phone include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, ANT+, USB Type-C, NFC, GPS, Galileo, Glonass, BeiDou, and Enhanced 2X2 MIMO. It supports dual SIM with one Nano-SIM and one eSIM.
Sensors onboard include Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro, Geomagnetic sensor, Hall sensor, Proximity sensor, RGB Light Sensor, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Security features on the phone include Samsung Knox, a secure folder, and facial recognition.
The phone packs dual battery with 3300mAh capacity that comes with 15w fast charging and 9w Qi wireless charging support.
The Galaxy Z Flip is priced at $1,380 (Rs. 98,400 approx.) and it will go on sale from February 14 in the US and South Korea in Black and Purple color options. Its Gold variant will also come later. It is also expected to launch in India very soon.
