Realme launched its Realme 6 series in India today and it comes with a lot of upgrades over previous Realme 5 series. Especially Realme 6 has got some great improvements such as FHD+ 90hZ display, a powerful Helio G90T processor, and 64MP quad-camera. Realme 6 starts at Rs. 12,999 in India and it will go on sale from March 11. We have spent some time with this phone ahead of launch and here are our first impressions about it.
Design
Starting with the build quality, the phone feels premium in the hand, however, the back panel is not made of glass. Realme used a polycarbonate back panel but it looks quite like the glass back and comes in two different color options including Blue and White. We got the White color option for review and it looked really cool.
On the right side of the phone, you get the power button that also has the fingerprint sensor in it. On the left side, there are usual volume buttons and a card tray for dedicated SIM cards and microSD card.
On the bottom, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, a speaker grille, and a primary microphone.
Coming to the front, Realme used a single punch hole on the top left of the display instead of the dewdrop notch. The small punch hole houses the 16MP selfie camera. The bottom chin is small and the top and side bezels are also minimal.
Display
The display is the biggest upgrade in the Realme 6. It features a 6.5-inch 20:9 display, and this time Realme upgraded it to a FullHD+ (1080x 2400 pixels) resolution. Moreover, it comes with a refresh rate of 90Hz which makes it smoother. Apart from this, the brightness and colors and good.
Performance
The Realme 6 is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek Helio G90T SOC. This chipset has two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.05GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz.
The MediaTek G90T is probably one of the best mid-range chipsets for gaming. It is even faster than Qualcomm’s 700 series. We played PUBG Mobile on this phone on high settings without any glitch.
Talking about the AnTuTu benchmark, the Realme 6’s MediaTek chipset scored better than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730 chipset.
For memory, the Realme 6 comes 4GB,6GB or 8GB LPDDR4X RAM options and UFS 2.1-type 64GB or 128GB storage options.
Software
Software-wise, the smartphone is running on Realme UI based on Android 10. As compared to Realme’s previous ColorOS, the new UI offers a much cleaner interface. However, it is again not bloatware-free, though you can uninstall unwanted apps.
Camera
Coming to the cameras, the quad-camera setup has a 64MP f/1.8 sensor, an 8MP 119° wide-angle sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP mono sensor that is used for portraits. On the front, there is a 16-megapixel f/2.0 shooter.
We took some pictures on the Realme and those came out sharp and crisp with great detailing, especially in daylight. Here are some camera samples.
Battery
The device is fueled by a 4300mAh battery which is sufficient to get you through a full day of usage. Moreover, it can be charged quickly with the 30W fast charger that can charge up to 68% in 30 minutes and 100% in just an hour.
Wrapping Up
The Realme starts at just Rs. 12, 999 and for the price, it offers a lot. You get a 90Hz display, powerful chipset, impressive quad cameras, cleaner user interface with the latest software, and good battery with fast charging. So, for now, we think Realme 6 can be a great choice in this segment.
