Xiaomi has upgraded its Redmi Note series with two new phones- Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. The highlights of these phones are 6.67-inch Full HD+ LCD punch-hole screen & glass back, both with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, in-display front camera, quad rear cameras, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, Snapdragon 720G SoC, and a massive 5020mAh battery.
Both phones come with almost similar specs and have a very few differences in terms of camera and fast charging. Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is priced more than Redmi Note 9 Pro. So, should you go for the Max version or Redmi Note 9 Pro is the right choice? Lets find out!

Same Design and Display
The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max come with a similar glass sandwich design with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. They both look premium from the back side and come in Interstellar Black, Aurora Blue, and Glacier White colors. These also sport splash-proof P2i coating on body.
Both the phones also sport a similar 6.67-inch Full HD+(2400 × 1080 pixels) LCD screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Same Hardware
Both the devices are powered by the latest Snapdragon 720G 8nm processor with Adreno 618 GPU. The Redmi Note 9 Pro packs 4GB or 6GB LPPDDR4x RAM with 64GB or 128GB UFS 2.1 storage, whereas Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with up to 8GB RAM.
64MP Vs 48MP Rear Camera
These smartphones sport a quad rear camera setup. The Note 9 Pro Max comes with a 64MP Samsung GW1 sensor with f/1.89 aperture as main camera while the Note 9 Pro has a 48MP Samsung GM2 sensor with f/1.79 aperture as primary camera. Other cameras in the setup are same including an 8MP 119° ultra-wide angle lens, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP portrait lens.
If we talk about difference here, you will not really notice much difference in 64MP shots vs 48MP shots. Other photography features are same in both phones. So, only for 64MP camera you should not spend those extra bucks.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max sports a 32MP front camera and there is a 16MP front camera on Redmi Note 9 Pro. Here again, you will not find much difference in the quality of both the selfies. So, Redmi Note 9 Pro’s 16MP will be just fine for your social media pics.
33W Vs 18W Fast Charging
Both the phones pack a huge 5,020mAh battery. The Note 9 Pro comes with 18W fast charging support and there is 33W fast charging support in Note 9 Pro Max. Both the fast chargers come inside the box. The 33W charger can charge Note 9 Pro Max to 100% in less than one hour while 18W charger will take a little extra time. This should not be an issue for many of us as we can easily wait for an hour to fully charge our phone.
Price
The Redmi Note 9 Pro starts at Rs. 12,999 for the 4GB+64GB version and goes up to Rs. 15,999 for the 6GB+128GB model. While the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max starts at Rs. 14,999 for the 6GB+64GB version and its 6GB+128GB model is priced at Rs. 16,999. It also has 8GB+128GB version which is priced at Rs. 18,999.
You can see the 6GB+128GB models of these phones have Rs. 1,000 difference.
Wrapping Up
We suggest you should not spend those extra rupees on Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. You will get the same features on Redmi Note 9 Pro at a lesser price. The 64MP rear camera, 32MP selfie and 33W fast charger will not make much difference in the day to day usage, so you should go for Redmi Note 9 Pro.
