Samsung Galaxy M51 Quick Review: 5 Reasons To Buy and 2 Reasons Not Buy

Samsung launched its Galaxy M51 smartphone in India today. The company’s latest smartphone in the M series comes with a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Infinity-O Super AMOLED Plus display, Snapdragon 730G SoC with up to 8GB of RAM, 64-megapixel quad rear camera, 32-megapixel front camera, and a huge 7000mAh battery with 25W fast charging. We got out hands on the new Samsung phone and here is our Galaxy M51 quick review in form of reasons to buy and not to buy.

Reasons to buy

Super AMOLED Plus Display

The smartphone has a 6.7-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) Infinity-O Super AMOLED Plus display with 20:9 aspect ratio and over 91% screen-to-body ratio. The screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

If we talk about screen features, it 420 nits brightness (460 LUX in our testing) levels. The viewing angles are good and colors are sharp, due to sAMOLED panel.

Snapdragon 730G Processor

The phone is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 730G processor with Adreno 618 GPU. It is paired with up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. The storage is expandable up to 512GB via a micro SD card.

64MP Rear Camera

It has a quad rear camera setup with a 64MP primary camera with a Sony IMX682 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, a 12MP 123° ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro sensor. It has several camera features like filters, moments, and smart crop.

32MP Front Camera

The smartphone sports a 32MP front camera with Sony IMX 616 sensor f/2.2 aperture lens. It has all the good features in the front camera such as a single take multi outputs.

7000mAh Battery

25W fast charger in the box.

The phone is powered by a 7000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support via USB Type-C. Alongside a fast charger in the box, it also comes with USB Type-C to Type-C cable for reverse charging. As per Samsung, the battery can offer 34 hours of video playback, 64 hours of calls, and over 182 hours of music playback.

Connectivity features

Connectivity features include triple (nano + nano + microSD) card slot, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS, USB Type-C, NFC, and 3.5mm audio jack.

Reasons Not to Buy

Glasstic Design

The new Samsung Galaxy M series phone has a 3D Glastic back panel, just like other phones in the series. It comes in Celestial Black and Electric Blue colors and has a slightly dull appearance on the back. The phone features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The device is quite thick with 9.5mm thickness and also a little bit heavy with 213g weight. However, considering the 7000mAh battery, it seems fine. Overall, the design is very simple and for a phone worth Rs 25,000, it is a bummer.

OneUI Bloatware

The smartphone runs on Android 10 with Samsung’s One UI 2.1 on top. The new UI from the company is good, lightweight, and offers a good user experience. However, there is a few bloatware related issues that need to be solved. It has a Samsung Discover feed as well, which lest you download more bloatware apps.

Price and Availability

Samsung Galaxy M51 is priced at Rs. 24,999 for the 6GB+128GB version and the 8GB+128GB version costs Rs. 26,999. The handset will be available via Amazon.in and Samsung.com starting from September 18.
