New MacBook Air 2022 with M2 3 Reasons to Buy and 3 Not to Buy

At its WWDC event, Apple introduced the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro powered by the new M2 chip. Here we’ll talk about the new MacBook Air with M2, as is it worth buying in 2022? Apart from the new 5nm chip, the new MacBook Air comes with a sleek new design, a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, a 1080p Face-time camera, and a four-speaker sound system, and much more. Let’s check out some reasons to buy and not to buy MacBook Air with M2 before you make any decision.

MacBook Air Reasons to Buy

Better Design and Display

The new MacBook Air comes with a new design language which not only makes it sleeker than before and also a bit lighter (11.3 mm thin, and 1.24 kg weight) despite a bigger display. Apple says, it has used an all-aluminum body to integrate its components so efficiently that results in 20% reduction in laptop volume.

If we talk about the display, it has a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display that is 25% brighter than the MacBook Air 2020, with a peak 500 nits brightness. Moreover, it is also feature the same notch display as the previous year’s MacBook Pro.

Latest M2 Chip

Apple also announced the new M2 chipset at its WWDC event. The company’s new ARM-based chipset for the Mac is the successor to the M1 that came in 2020. It is based on 2nd-gen 5 nm process, having 25 billion transistors which is more than M1. This in turn, improves performance across the entire chip and delivers 100GB/s of unified memory bandwidth and up to 24GB of fast LPDDR5 unified memory.

Full HD Camera and Speakers

Another big upgrade in the new MacBook Air is a 1080p Facetime HD camera that sits inside its notch. This will surely help in better video quality while meeting and all.

Apart from this, the machine also features a four-speaker sound system compared to a stereo speaker inside last MacBook Air. The new system is completely integrated between the keyboard and display and supports wide stereo sound, Spatial Audio when playing music or video with Dolby Atmos. It also has a three-mic array with directional beam-forming and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

MacBook Air Reasons Not to Buy

No Improvement in Battery Life

The new MacBook has a 52.6‑watt‑hour lithium‑polymer battery that offers up to 15 hours wireless web browsing and up to 18 hours Apple TV movie playback. The battery, this time, is fast-charging capable with up to 67W USB-C power adapter. However, you get only 30W adapter with 8-core GPU model.

Whereas, the MacBook Air 2020 has 49.9-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery but it also offers almost similar battery life including 18 hours Apple TV app movie playback. So there is basically no significant improvement in battery life.

No Improvements in Ports and Connectivity

The new Macbook still comes with the similar ports as the MacBook Air 2020. It has two thunderbolt and four USB ports. For connectivity, the new machine supports 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology. So you can clearly see there is no bigger update in terms of ports and connectivity from Apple.

Price is Higher

The new MacBook Air with M2 price in India starts at Rs. 1,19,900 for the 8-Core GPU and 256GB storage version. The top-end 512GB storage model with 10-Core GPU version costs Rs. 1,49,900. Whereas the MacBook Air with M1 is priced at Rs. 99,900 for 256GB storage model.

You can see there is a big price difference in both models for very less upgrade. So, you can still go for the MacBook with M1 in 2022 as it will offer performance at par with the new MacBook.

Wrapping Up

These were some of the reasons why you should buy MacBook Air or not to buy this. If you are still not sure which MacBook Air to buy, let’s come to the conclusion- if you want a “brand new” machine just for the sake of it, you can get one with M2; otherwise, the one with M1 is still effective for most of your daily tasks and you will also save some money.
