Sony ULT Field 7 Review: A Long-Lasting Party Speaker

Sony is known for launching high-quality audio products, and one of its latest ULT additions is the ULT Field 7. The speaker’s initial impression makes you want to take it straight to your camping trips (given its ample loudness and punchy bass). So we’ve used the speakers for over a couple of weeks, and here is the review.

Initial Impressions

The ULT Field 7 is a cylindrical speaker with no complaints about volume or music audibility. Sony’s ULT series is popular for its thumping bass, and the speaker delivers no less (with its dedicated ULT button). But is the speaker flawless in all aspects?

The feature-rich portable Bluetooth speaker has an IP67 rating and is designed to withstand harsh outdoor conditions. Here’s a detailed review of the Sony ULT Field 7 based on its performance, specifications, pros and cons, and alternatives.

SONY ULT Field 7 Design and Build quality

Design and Build Quality

The cylindrical-shaped ULT Field 7 weighs a little over 6 kg and has rather useful handles on both sides. They feel comfortable to hold and carry it around despite its huge size. However, the weight might be a little heavy to hold with just one hand (unless you like dumbness and weights, that is).

Another good part about the ULT Field 7 is that it is made of strong plastic (polyester), which is sturdy and is also protected by the rugged mesh, which greatly enhances the durability of the device. On top of that, the IP67 rating ensures it is dustproof and waterproof, taking away all your worries for any or all your outdoor use (yes, including camping). The buttons on the speaker are tactile and easy to use. Sadly, the flap for the connectivity ports does not open up easily due to its rubber material, which could’ve been better.

Sound Quality

The ULT Field 7 features a two-way speaker system with two 46mm tweeters and two 114mm woofers, complemented by passive radiators that deliver deep bass and clear highs. During the testing, I found the sound quality to be really impressive at low to medium volumes, with proper trebles, bass, and an immersive soundstage. However, at higher volumes, the speaker does become sharp and disturbing to one’s ears especially if it is close to you.

Connectivity and Features

Another good thing about the Sony ULT Field 7 is that it comes with tons of connectivity features. The speaker supports Bluetooth 5.2 with SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs, for all high-quality audio playback along with multipoint connectivity. This handy feature lets you simultaneously pair with two devices using the same speaker.

It also comes with karaoke and guitar inputs with a 6.3mm jack for any of your singing sessions or musical performances. The ULT Field 7 has customizable LED effects around the rings that change colours and adds on to the party vibe. As far as the battery life is concerned, the speaker lasts for up to 30 hours of music playback, which could be lesser if you are using the ULT modes. But worry not, as it also supports quick charging.

The speaker has a dedicated battery button that shows the charge percentage. Interestingly, it can also act as a portable charger and charge your phone when outdoors.
