These 5 Must-Have Features I Expect In The iPhone 16

Fans and tech enthusiasts worldwide are hyped about the launch of the iPhone 16 series, due 9 September 2024. Like most fans, I, too, have been keeping up with the news, leaks, and rumours regarding the iPhone 15 successor.

Speculation is at an all-time high about the new design and AI features in the iPhone 16. Furthermore, Apple’s recently held WWDC in June introduced us to Apple Intelligence and a new UI, building up the anticipation. Here’s everything new we can expect from the soon-to-be-launched premium smartphone.

Evolution From iPhone 15 to iPhone 16

If we look back at the preceding iPhones, there were not many major upgrades from the 14 to the 15 series. However, the same cannot be said for the next-in-line iPhone 16. The 16 series is speculated to have a new camera island, a bigger battery, and a new colour scheme for its fans, as per popular Apple-based product review publication MacRumors. There is much to talk about, but first, let us look at the specs of the iPhone 15 compared to the expected specs of the iPhone 16.

Apple has also sought extensive user input regarding fresh design. They are trying to make more things available to basic iPhone 16 users, unlike their 15 series, where the best features were only available on the pro versions of the iPhone 15.

AI Features To Look Out For in iPhone 16 Series

When Apple rolled out its iOS 18 at WWDC on 24 June, I was thrilled to see Apple Intelligence being introduced. They have done a great job incorporating and optimising it to the user’s context for the existing devices. There are tools one can use to change the tone of one’s writing, proofread it, polish it, and improve one’s writing.

Oh, and Apple’s trademark digital assistant, Siri, will finally get paired with AI, much like Google’s Gemini, making it a tough competitor to its counterparts in the market. It can better understand your personal context and give you suggestions. You can ask Siri to edit your images and create tasks for you. If, in any case, Siri fails to understand you, you can bring up OpenAI chat GPT and complete your assignments.

The iPhone 16 will see a significant update in terms of AI-powered image generation and editing. You can add or remove things or people from the image or ask Siri to generate your custom hiking or travelling itineraries. You can also search through all your files using Siri only.

All New Design and Hardware Changes In iPhone 16

Having a vertical camera module is helpful for the Spatial Video feature. This feature can allow you to capture and see your favourite moments in 3-D. There are rumours that this feature will be in the iPhone 16. Previously, this was only available to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. We may see a thinner version of the Pill-shaped camera module, with an action button and the volume rockers on the right side. On the left, there will be a dedicated button to shoot your images and videos; tapping it lets you adjust your focus.

However, it is rumoured that the iPhone 16 series will have the same A18 chipset. It may be possible that the pro and pro max versions will get the same chipset but with a better GPU and also a neural engine for Generative AI. We can expect a RAM upgrade from the primary 6GB to 8GB in the base iPhone 16 models. It is rumoured that iPhone 16’s battery capacity could be up to 3500mAh. However, it is yet to be officially confirmed if the battery will get any significant upgrades is yet to be seen.

New Cases and MagSafe for iPhone 16?

Even before the actual launch case, manufacturers are needed to source the dimensions of the upcoming devices. Since there is a lot of money if you are the first to develop a case for the new iPhones, they source it from Apple suppliers, and based on those rumours and dimensions, they curate their cases. In one such image put forward by a case organisation, we can see a thinner MagSafe circumference than the iPhone 15 Pro. This can mean the MagSafe magnets are getting a makeover as well.

More Customisations and Personalisation With iOS 18

iPhones were not always the first thought when it came to customising the user interface. However, with the latest iOS18 and iOS 18 beta, iPhone users can change the look of their home and lock screens. The eligibility for this, however, is restricted to only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, with only the next in the iPhone 16 lineup being AI-ready for the future.

Interestingly, Apple also launched a mix of on-device and cloud AI models that are just as fast and much more secure, which is important as most chatbots and AI tend to store user data for training purposes.

Summing it Up

If you are an iPhone 14 user or any previous series, you should get the iPhone 16 series. Apple has created a device with premium designs and a great processor that can handle multitasking and hardcore gaming. They made sure the battery lasts at least a day. Apple Intelligence features are also jam-packed in the device. I believe this device could be the “Most Complete iPhone from Apple to Date.” For more such content, follow GadgetsToUse.
