Free Wifi, but is it Really Free?
The government of India announced this after the amends made to the Flight and Maritime Connectivity rules. This was also tested first in the International flights. However, this was officially put into effect on the 1st of January 2025. There is a catch: you can only access this once you have reached an altitude of 3000 meters. You can also connect multiple devices, such as tablets, smartphones, and even laptops.
In the press release, Air India mentioned that the Wifi is free on domestic flights in the Introductory offer. This means that there are high chances of this being a paid feature.
How to Connect to Free Wifi
First, you need to put your device on Airplane Mode. Rest assured, you can use wifi even in Airplane mode. Once you do this then follow the steps mentioned below.
1. Open the Wifi settings and Choose Air India Wifi from the available networks.
2. You will be redirected to the Air India Wifi portal.
3. Enter all the details required, mainly your PNR and Name.
4. After you have filled in the details, hit submit. You will be connected to the Wifi on the flight.

This was not possible before. However, on the first of January, the government of India revised the rule regarding Internet usage during flights and maritime travel. You can now use wifi on International and domestic flights.
