How to Stop, Undo & Recover Google Storage For Photos and Videos

Google storage is 90% full; this is a message we all have read at least once in our lifetime. Cameras on a smartphone have never been better than what they are now. This also means a bigger file size for each picture and video shot from the said camera. This results in exhausting our Google storage much faster. The second most attempted method to get more storage is when people compress the size of thier media files.

How to Stop, Undo Google Recover Storage For Photos and Videos

I did that too and well it was good for a while, I enjoyed the empty space. However, I kept thinking about the memories those images and videos hold and watching them pixelated just was not the same. So I turned them back to their original size, in this article I will be sharing this same method with you.

Is Compressing Files Really Worth It

While compressing the file you are asmed to double check because once compressed your images and videos will be reduced in quality. Though this method works and can give you a certain amount of space , but you will be mission out on a lot of details from your memories. If you have an image from a decade then that image would be of low quality, and if you compress it further it will loose all details. For me compressing my media files were never an option , however i did tried the feature.

It worked out great and some storage freed up as well. However, when I i wanted to decompress it there was not an option which would allow me to do that. So here is what I did.

How to Decompress the files to original quality

Once you have recovered your storage and you have started compressing your media files , the process will take several hours. If you have accidently opted this option do not panic wait for 24Hrs , let the process complete. Once it is completed follow the given below steps.

1. On your mobile or browser open Google Photos and tap on your profile image on the top right.

2. Then from there tap on Photo Settings.

3. Then click on Backup and then on Backup Quality.

4. Choose Reduced Quality and then switch it back to original quality.

5. Once you do this you will be asked to update the exsisting data to thier original quality.

Once you do this, let it process and all the media that is already uploaded will return it its original quality. For more storage the best way still is to buy the Subscription of Google One.
