How good are you at spotting AI-generated photos and videos? If you think you are good, then you need to reconsider. The AI space is blooming with new models and image generators that create images and videos so real they can fool anyone. The perfect example is our digital avatars, which have already taken over social media accounts. It is getting harder to distinguish between AI and reality. Scammers are using AI to scam people in online frauds. So, in this article, I will share with you how you can safeguard yourself from AI scams.

Rise of AI-Generated Media on Social Media
We have everything on the Internet, you name it, and the Internet will find it for you. While some of it is organic, most of it is adulterated or somewhat edited. That is why you should not trust everything you see online. We witnessed several deepfake images and videos of celebrities during the Kumbh Mela, and even fake videos of world leaders like Narendra Modi and Donald Trump. So tools like Scam AI can be helpful as it can identify if someone or an AI has tampered with the video or photo.
How to Detect Scams with Scam AI
Scams AI is in the beta phase, and I tested it on different parameters. I used an AI-generated image and it easily detected it. In the second test, I used an image I clicked and then expanded it using AI. So first we are going to take a look at the steps you need to take in order to use Scam AI.
1. Open scam.ai in any web browser. Click on Get Started.

2. This will lead you to the sign-in page.

3. Sign in using your email and then verify through the email you receive in your inbox.

4. Once your email is verified, you can upload images.
5. Click on Upload files and then choose the image you want to test.

6. Post-processing results will be reflected.

When I uploaded an image that was expanded using AI, the software was not able to detect any AI interference, which is alarming. I understand that the program is still in the beta stage, but it should have been able to detect some traces of AI interference. However, the results showed zero AI involvement. We can expect the tool to get better with future updates.

In addition to detecting fake photos, we recently tested tools using which you can spot fake AI-generated videos on the internet. You can refer to that guide to stay aware of both deepfake images and videos.
