Oppo F7 with 25MP AI-powered front camera is the latest flagship from the Chinese company. Just like previous Oppo phones, the new Oppo F7 is also equipped with a selfie focused camera. This time, the front camera is said to offer enhanced selfies with its AI features. Moreover, Oppo F7 has been launched with an iPhone X-style notch on top of the screen with a starting price of Rs. 21,990 in India.

Oppo‘s F series line-up has always been popular in India because of its good selfie camera. So, the new addition to this line-up, Oppo F7 also seems to be ticking all the boxes with its front camera as well as design. In this post, we will tell you whether the F7 actually justifies its pricing and should you consider this device for your next upgrade. Let’s find the reasons to buy and also the reasons not to buy this new selfie expert.

Reasons to buy the Oppo F7

25MP AI-Powered Selfie Camera

Oppo has long been targeting the selfie lovers with its phones, and the F7 is no exception. It sports a 25MP front camera which comes equipped with several AI features. The smartphone clicks perfect selfies using the AI Beauty mode and HDR. It comes with AI Beauty 2.0 which is an impressive addition as it recognizes 296 points on the face to apply enhancements to selfies.

Another highlight features of the front camera is the ability to edit the pictures, add Snapchat-like AR filters, and a Vivid mode that enhances the selfies. The Vivid mode brings the pictures to life by adding natural colors recognized by the AI to the selfies.

On the back of this phone sits a 16MP snapper with a f/1.8 aperture, which also delivers good results especially in low light conditions. The rear camera also comes with AI-powered scene recognition which identifies 16 different scenes.

FHD+ Notch Display

The OPPO F7 was one of the first Android-based smartphones to adopt the notch display design. With an iPhone X-like notch at the top of its display, the smartphone not only looks beautiful but also offers an immersive viewing experience.

The Oppo F7 has a good full HD+ display with 2280 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. The display does not disappoint in outdoors and has good viewing angles and the icons look sharp. If we talk about the notch, many apps on the Oppo F7 are customized for the notch.

Premium Looks

Oppo has changed the design language this time and the Oppo F7 looks premium when it comes to the looks. Despite coming with a plastic body, the phone looks good, it is sturdy and is also relatively light at just 158 grams. Its elegant back is coated with glossy paint and you can purchase the handset in various colors like Red, Silver, or Black. The Black variant of Oppo F7 comes with a unique glass back with triangular-cut patterns that gives it a diamond-like look.

Powerful Hardware

The Oppo F7 comes equipped with the latest octa-core Mediatek Helio P60 chipset coupled with Mali-G72 MP3 GPU and at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. You can also opt for the 6GB RAM model which offers 128GB of storage.

The new Helio P60 chipset comprises four Cortex A73 cores and four Cortex A53 cores, all clocked at 2 GHz which makes it a powerful SoC. Hence, performance is a not an issue with the Oppo F7. The phone can handle multitasking very well and one can switch between multiple apps seamlessly, which is good. Also, the phone does not heat up during video streaming, and moderate gaming. We played games like Asphalt 8, PUBG Mobile, etc and they did not cause any lag, though it gets a little warm after rigorous gaming which is common for most smartphones.

Oppo F7 Gaming

Overall, the Oppo F7 does not have any issue performance wise. The new P60 chipset is even more powerful than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 626 and 636 SoCs. It gives a better score in AnTuTu benchmark that the other two.

Color OS 5.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo

The Oppo F7 comes with ColorOS 5.0 which is based on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo, which is another plus point. The new ColorOS 5.0 comes with new navigation gestures. It also comes with navigation buttons but you can get rid of them to use gesture-based navigations like the iPhone X.

Another great addition in ColorOS 5.0 is the full-screen multitasking feature. Whether you are watching a video in full screen or playing a game, a tiny icon will appear in the space around the notch when you get a message. You can choose either to open the full app or just reply without interrupting your video or game.

Some other great features that Oppo is touting about is its new face unlock feature, which is said to map and recognize 128 points on a registered face thanks to its AI recognition technology. The OPPO F7 offers a 3,400mAh battery which can easily offer more than a day’s juice if you are using moderately.

Reasons not to buy the Oppo F7

No Type C

It was earlier expected that there would be a Type-C port instead of a USB Type 2.0 in the Oppo F7, especially as it has been priced above 20K. So, we would have liked if Oppo had included a USB-C port instead of a micro USB port in the F7.

No fast charging

The 3,400mAh battery does offer a great battery life, but, unfortunately, the phone does not support fast charging. Additionally, the Oppo F7 does not support Oppo’s VOOC Flash Charging. The absence of Flash Charging may be a con to many users as the phone will take a lot of time to charge completely.

Conclusion

The Oppo F7 ticks all the boxes when it comes to most recent trends including a Full View notch display, a high-resolution selfie camera, and Android Oreo. At a price of Rs. 21,990, the Oppo offers great performance, allows user to take enhanced selfies and also has a stylish look. The Oppo F7 definitely looks a good contender in this segment. Overall, the Oppo F7 is a good device with its good selfie camera, solid performance with powerful hardware and battery life.
