Dell Venue 7 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Update: Del Venue 7 is now available in India for 10,990 INR

Dell launched the Venue 7 and Venue 8 Android based tablets 2 days back, for $150 and $180 respectively. The devices are expected to come to India in a few weeks’ time, and compete with similar devices from manufacturers ranging from XOLO to HP. In this post, we shall be talking about the quick review of the Venue 7 tablet, including it’s specifications, price, etc.

Camera and Internal Storage

Most of us hardly use our tablet’s camera for imaging since we tend to have smartphones which feature much better cameras. However, having shooters on the tablet doesn’t hurt, and can come in handy on a rainy day. The Dell Venue 7 features a set of 3MP and 0.3MP cameras for the rear and front of the device respectively.

The 0.3MP unit on the front will probably find much more use, while the 3MP on the rear will remain idle for most of the time. Dell could’ve done better with the front camera though, since it is pretty obvious that users will be depending on the front-facing unit for tasks such as video calls. We don’t have information from Dell yet, but we imagine the unit will be of fixed-focus type, which might cause problems to users, especially under low light conditions.

Processor and Battery

The Dell Venue 7 features an impressive 1.6 GHz dual core Intel Atom Z2760, which, although is more than a year old, is pretty impressive especially considering the price range at which Dell is offering the device. You can expect the device to be responsive enough for most of your tasks, while being power efficient at the same time. The inclusion of the Intel Atom Z2760 takes the value proposition of this device to a whole new level, and we would really hope to see the device being available for the same amount in India.

The device will come with a 4100mAh battery, which according to Dell, will be good enough for up to 10hours of usage. That is some claim, and we would only be happy to see the device living up to the claims of its manufacturers.

Display and Features

The Dell Venue 7 will feature a 7 inch display panel with a good enough resolution of 1200×800 pixels. We say good enough because the display should and probably will serve different type of usages a typical tablet is subjected to. This includes internet browsing, gaming, movies, etc.

The device will come with an optional 3G variant, which will accept SIM cards and offer 3G connectivity.

Comparison

The device can be compared to various other tablets in the market like the HP Slate 7, Nexus 7 2013 edition, XOLO Tegra Note, etc. The first generation Nexus 7  which is now available only at Rs. 9999 after receiving several price cuts might also make a dent in its sales.

Looks and Connectivity

Everything about this tablet looks premium. That includes the body design, the colour contrast and also the Dell logo on the back panel which has been tastefully executed. The circular camera cut out is placed in the top center position above the logo and the letallic volume rocker key looks stylish on the black side edge as you can see in the picture. Connectivity features include 3G (optional), WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.

Key Specs

Model Dell Venue 7
Display 7 inches, 1200x800p
Processor 1.6 GHz dual core Intel Atom Z2760
RAM 2GB
Internal Storage 16GB
OS Android v4.2
Cameras 3MP/0.3MP
Battery 4100mAh
Price Rs. 10,990

Conclusion

We’re really impressed with the specs sheet that comes along the Dell Venue 7. While some might favour an 8 inch form factor, the device will be probably a very good one for those who’re looking for a 7 inch tablet with powerful specifications. 2GB of RAM means you will be able to multitask with ease, and without lag.We only hope to see the device being available at an amount equivalent to the $150 it currently is launched for.
