Battery is the life of a smartphone and a large battery lets you uninterruptedly enjoy all those features that make your phone smart. There has been a demand for high battery backup specially from domestic manufacturers and Gionee M2 has been designed to deliver on that count with its massive 4200 mAh battery catering to a 5 inch display. Let’s take a look at the hardware.

Camera and Internal Storage

With MT6582 chipset becoming increasingly popular in India among quad core devices, 8 MP camera is the most you can hope for as of now until the octa core brigade jumps in. The front 2 MP shooter is also present for video calling.

The internal storage is standard 4 GB and can be further extended to 32 GB using microSD card support. Most manufacturers are offering similar storage option but it’s a trend that we don’t like much in Android eco system. Phones like Huawei Ascend D1 and Nokia Lumia 525 will provide you with better storage options in the same price range.

Processor and Battery

The processor is MT6582 1.3 GHz quad core which is fast replacing last generation MT6589 series in budget quad core segment. The low cost chipset is a decent performer and is assisted by 1 GB internal storage and Mali 400 MP2 GPU.

The battery capacity is ample 4200 mAh which according to Gionee will offer you 555 hours of standby time and up to 24 hours of talk time on 3G. The battery capacity is the USP of this phone which differentiates it from the other quad core crowd. The USB OTG support lets you use this phone as a battery bank to charge other devices as well.

Display and Other Features

The display is 5 inches in size and sports FWVGA 480 X 854 pixel resolution which implies your texts won’t be as sharp with pixel density of 195 pixels per inches. The display is TFT LCD and not an IPS panel which will affect viewing angles and brightness adversely. Overall the display is not a highlight in this phone and it would be wise to not expect much out of it.

The Phone supports Dual SIM functionality and runs on Android 4.2 operating system, most likely customized with Amigo UI.

Looks and Connectivity

The front is mostly screen with three capacitive touch buttons at the bottom and speaker, proximity sensor and camera at the top. The back is mostly neat with speaker grill and Gionee insignia at the bottom.

The connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB OTG and GPS.

Comparison

The phone will compete against phones like Moto G, Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini, Xolo Q1010, Lenovo P780 and Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus.
