Huawei Honor Holly Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Update 15-10-2014: The processor used is MediaTek MT6582 as confirmed by benchmark apps

Dynamics of budget Android market is definitely rocking these days and latest jaw dropping entrant is Huawei Honor Holly, which has been aggressively priced at 6,999 INR. The Glossy back 5 inch smartphone will start retailing from 16th October exclusively on Flipkart. We got to spend some time with the device at the launch event in India, let’s take a look at the hardware.

Camera and Internal Storage

Huawei is using an 8 MP rear camera coupled with LED flash and a 2 MP basic front shooter. The rear camera unit has been sourced from Samsung while the front camera has OmniVision branding. The rear camera performance in low light however sturggled with detail in Initial testing. The camera however managed good details and colours in good lighting. It is still an above average 8 MP shooter based on our initial testing.

Internal storage is 16 GB, out of which 13 GB is available at user end. This is the most you can get in this price range as of now. There is option for MicroSD expansion as well.

Processor and Battery

The processor used is 1.3 GHz quad core unit backed by 1 GB RAM. In our initial time with the device, we didn’t notice any lag in the interface, however, we would like to test it further to know if the same would hold true in the long run. Huawei hasn’t specified any more detail about the chipset.

Battery capacity is 2000 mAh and Huawei sounds very confident about it. Company claims 24 hours of moderate usage and 48 hours of light usage from single charge. Even if these claims are nearly true, that would make us very happy at this price point.

Display and Other Features

The Display used is 5 inches in size with 720p HD resolution. The LTPS display offers great viewing angles and decent colors, quite impressive for the corresponding price tag. There is no Gorilla Glass protection on top.

Operating system is Android KitKat with Huawei’s Emotion UI layered on top. Like most other Chinese ROMs, this one is missing app drawer by default. Of course, you can always download third party app launchers from play store. The interface is simple to use and rich in options.

Comparison

At this price, Huawei Honor Holly will give tough competition to phones like Moto E, Asus Zenfone 4.5, Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Arya Z2.
