Lava Iris X8 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Lately, Lava announced the launch of a new smartphone called Lava Iris X8 for a pricing of Rs 8,999. Like several other offerings in the similar price bracket, this new smartphone comes with an octa core processor from MediaTek’s stable and it is based on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. The device resembles the other Iris X smartphones such as Iris X5 and others. Let’s us take a quick review at the Iris X8 smartphone based on its specifications.

Camera and Internal Storage

The Iris X8 features an 8 MP rear camera with dual LED flash and BSI 3 sensor for enhanced photography performance. Also, there is a 3 MP front facing selfie snapper onboard that can handle clicking self portrait shots and video conferencing respectively. It looks like the Lava smartphone is on par with the imaging hardware in the other devices in this price bracket, but it lacks a selfie focused front facer that is available in Iris X5.

Internal storage is quite ample at 16 GB to store the necessary user content and it can be expanded further by another 32 GB with the help of a micro SD card. This seems to be decent enough for a smartphone in this class and we do not have any issues in this regard.

Processor and Battery

Lava Iris X8 is incorporated with a 1.4 GHz octa core MediaTek MT6592M processor that is found in many other smartphones in this price bracket including the Xolo Omega 5.0. The chipset is teamed up with 2 GB of RAM that can render enhanced multi-tasking and clutter free performance. With this chipset, we can expect the Lava phone to render outstanding performance and efficiency in its class.

A 2,500 mAh battery operates within the Lava Iris X8 sounds decent enough for the specifications that the handset packs. Though the capacity that this battery can render remains unknown, we expect it to be sufficient for a day long backup under moderate usage.

Display and Features

Like many other smartphones in the price bracket, the new Lava phone comes with a standard 5 inch IPS LCD display with HD screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels translating to a pixel density of 294 pixels per inch. The panel makes use of Asahi Dragontrail glass protection that will prevent it from scratches and other damage due to everyday usage.

Iris X8 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box and it is claimed to be upgradeable to Android 5.0 Lollipop sometime soon. Otherwise, there are standard connectivity aspects such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and dual SIM functionality.

Comparison

The Lava Iris X8 smartphones will be a tough challenger to the other smartphones in this segment including Xiaomi Redmi Note, Asus Zenfone 5, Xolo Omega 5.0, Celkon OCTA510 and others.

Price and Conclusion

Lava Iris X8 is definitely a decent offering in the sub Rs 10,000 price bracket with impressive specifications. The device comes with an octa core processor, strong display and impressive imaging aspects and others. The handset could be a best buy for those who are looking to experience octa core processor without shelling out much, but few other devices like Yureka in this price bracket arrive with 4G support that is missing in the Lava device.
