Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

Mega 6.3 has same kind of plastic build which you see in Samsung Galaxy S4 or some other similar phones, in terms of the looks it looks like an enlarged s4 with little bit low resolution for this much of display size of the screen. In terms of form factor it is definitely larger to hold in one hand and again to use the device you will require to use both of your hands, one handed usage is limited for this device because of small size but because of the use of plastic, you can easily hold it in one hand it weight just around 199 gram which is higher from the smartphone standard but not from tablet point of view.

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

The display is Super Clear LCD capacitive touch screen with 720 x 1280 resolution with ~233 ppi pixel density. The display also had pretty good viewing angles and bright enough as well, you wont notice the softness very easily with your eyes because of the low resolution on this much big display size because of the font size and UI design. It has 16gb internal memory on the device we reviewed and around 12Gb available to the user and it also has the memory SD card slot the rear which can be use to expand the storage if needed. The battery backup was like any other phone it lasted for one with moderate usage which includes browsing web for 1 hour, watching videos for half an hour and playing games and talk on the phone for 1 hour.

Software, Benchmarks and Gaming

The software UI running on top on this one is like any other samsung phone, they call is Touchwiz or Nature UX UI which definitely make things easy for users to locate and use once they are used to but it can never be snappy as vanilla android experience. Gaming experience on this phone is a breeze and benchmark figures are mentioned below.

Benchmark Scores

  • Quadrant Standard Edition:
  • Antutu Benchmark: 13228
  • Nenamark2:  59.1 fps
  • Multi Touch:  10 point

Camera Performance

The rear camera is a 8 MP shooter which can take really good photos on day light where as the front camera is 1.9 MP fixed focus but it is capable to taking good self portrait shots and can do a HD video chat as well, below are some camera samples from the rear camera.

Sound, Video and Navigation

The loudspeaker is loud enough and the sound through the in ear headphones is also good with better bass levels. In music player you get options for the bass boost and other sound enhancements. You can play HD videos both at 720p and 1080p without any audio video sync issues on this device. The device can be used for Navigation as well with the help of assisted GPS but make sure to enable the same under location settings.

Conclusion and Price

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 which is a phone + tablet comes at Rs. 29945e with some decent hardware and huge display, it actually bridges the gap in between a smartphone and a tablet as it gives you both but at a cost of the difficult to handle form factor. It not a easy to carry and comparing with other lost cost phablets you get in the market this one will give you better battery life and strong support after sales as it is a samsung device.
